and plan on a permanent vacation. We lost that war because, like Iraq,
it was a quagmire and a dirty little war.

over the world, but the Vietnamese saw it as a war of liberation, not
unlike our revolutionary war.
Second, our 'body count' strategy didn't work. Instead, we should have
been focused on winning the hearts and minds.
Third, the South Vietnamese government we installed was corrupt.
Forth, we never could get the South Vietnamese to 'stand up and fight'
Fifth, we never could get Vietnamesezaiton to work.
Fifth, our leadership sent us in with too few troops to control the country.

Some renowned historians say the reason we lost the war was far simpler
- we had lousy military intelligence in Vietnam and Iraq.
According to this theory we have to know where the enemy is and when we
didn't we carpet bomb everything in sight (shock and awe).
This mass slaughter causes a lot of people who might have otherwise
supported the US to turn against us after our bombs kill family members
and friends. We call these people "terrorists" or "insurgent" so as to
make it look like we're not responsible for our own defeat.
