U.S. manufacturing index hits 20-year high

By Shihoko Goto
UPI Senior Business Correspondent

WASHINGTON, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- The manufacturing sector is hotter than
ever, and its latest surge could indicate a robust recovery for the
U.S. economy in 2004, according to the Institute for Supply
Management.

The ISM's key manufacturing index reached 66.2 for December, its
highest level since December 1983, up from 62.8 the previous month. It
also marked the sixth consecutive month of expansion for the
manufacturing sector.

Yup - that number came out friday and the stock market popped up for
an hour and then sold off the rest of the day. Problem is that no one
believes these numbers since the bush gang has shown again and again
that they will lie about anything.

It does have a reek of *****! It seems to me that nearly every
appliance, tool or piece of hardware I have bought in the last couple
of years has been labeled "made in China" or "made in ***"

If our "manufacturing index" is soaring so gloriously, what is it that
we are manufacturing? Delusions?

We bought over 7k of cabinetry manufactured right here in Winchester
Virginia. According to the delivery company who brought the stuff,
they are very busy every day making similar deliveries throughout the
area. Manufacturing includes a lot of stuff beyond electronics.

Well yes, of course. But today's Doom N' Gloom Democrats have really and
truly convinced themselves that the men who manufactured your cabinetry,
right there in Winchester, Virginia, are not Americans. Perhaps those
Democrats believe they are space aliens from Mars or something, but those
Democrats are quite sure they are NOT real Americans "earning a decent
wage", nor can they possibly be part of the human statistics in back of the
fall of the Unemployment Rate that has been brought about by President
Bush's economic leadership.
No, things are ALWAYS dark and gloomy for today's Democrats.
And are likely to REMAIN that way for a long, long time to come at the rate
those Democrats are going, politically.
