Re: Was Bush Wired to Receive Help During First Debate? |
To suggest that Bush was wired to receive help in his absolutely abysmal
performance is to suggest that someone would have gone to great effort to
mislead the President. The fact is that between Bush and Kerry, American
politics was brought down to the lowest level yet. It was the ultimate
triumph of the politics of the 30 second sound bite. The two men simply
hurled their slogans back and forth. No one showed the slightest capacity
to develop a cogent argument in support of his position.

Was Bush Wired to Receive Help During First Debate?
Associated Press
CHANHASSEN, Minn. Oct. 9, 2004 - Campaign aides to President Bush on
Saturday laughed off rampant Internet speculation about whether the
president was wired to get help from advisers during his first debate with
Sen. John Kerry. "It's not true. It's ridiculous," Bush campaign spokesman
Scott Stanzel said.
A still photo from television footage of Bush as he debated Kerry on Sept.
30 in Coral Gables, Fla., appears to show a small, boxy shape between the
president's shoulder blades.
Campaign officials declined to discuss it further because they weren't
certain a bulge even existed and do not want to appear to take seriously
what they consider a "wild accusation."
Bloggers and others began to muse on various Web sites that the bulge
could
have been a radio receiver that the president's aides could use to give
him
answers during the debate. One Web site, www.isbushwired.com, is devoted
solely to the matter.
"Some people have been spending too many hours looking at left-wing
conspiracy Web sites," Stanzel said. "Did you hear the one about Elvis
moderating the third debate?"

Some people have suggested that the "device" failed about 30 minutes into
the debate.
Anyone who watched it live will remember that Shrub was doing pretty well
for the
1st 30 minutes or so. After that, he retreated into repetitious
sloganeering.
Maybe the battery died?

To be fair, the rules of engagement prohibited any sort of in depth
response.
2 minute exposition, 90 rebuttal and 30 extension doesn't give you much to
to formulate let alone express a cogent argument.

Bull. Kerry developed several cogent arguments for his position.
Bush simply kept saying "hard work" "mexxed Missiges" and such.
