I remember when Republicans stood for small government, and free
enterprise. They just got done passing an entitlement program, and
beefing
up the government payrolls.
I remember when Democrats stood for the common man, and living wages.
They
are pandering full tilt to illegal aliens, artificially lowering wages,
and
hurting unions and blue collar workers.
What the hell happened? There was a time when there was something to
respect in either party, and during any election you would have a good
candidate from one party or the other. Lately however, that's not the
case,
it's more about choosing the lesser evils. On the one hand you have
Republicans who will gladly sell out the populace to keep themselves
rich.
On the other you have Democrats who do exactly the same thing, sometimes
even to the same people. An BOTH of them are willing to sell us out for
people who aren't even citizens of the country. What crap.
I have been voting against politicians all my life. I can't remember a
clear cut decision to vote FOR someone because I agreed they would
represent
me the best. Always against the candidates I was pretty sure would cause
grief. I just wish there was some way to get people to vote at all.
Maybe
(and I mean Maybe) if we all showed up to vote we could begin to change
this
mess?
Yes! The voter turnout was high in the recent California gubernatorial
election, and thus a Republican was elected. Low voter turnout aids the
Democrats.

ROFL Have you ever studied campaign politics?
Republicans *love* rain on election days and voter disillusionment;
their core voting bloc is more disciplined and generally gets out to the
polls anyway. There are far more registered Democrats than Republicans,
but the base is extremely difficult for the party organizers to mobilize
and often stays home on election day.
I don't have an online link, but both dead-tree studies I've seen on
the matter concur that lower voter turnout generally favors the
Republicans, especially in statewide and national elections.

How many of those elections involved a current Hollywood big-shot action
hero. I know Reagan was an actor, but he didn't 'set aside' his acting
career to run for office...he was washed up when he started his political
career. :-P

Proof? No, of course not.
Meanwhile, the fact remains as the poster stated - the voter turnout was
extremely high in the recent California election, and the Republican won.
BTW, most political analysts generally view California as being a
pro-Democrat state. You may not have known that, given you level of
ignorance.

It's a newsgroup. Proof lies in the credibility of the argument. I
don't keep campaign-politics materials around from last year handy; all
my old class stuff is out in the garage and it's not worth fishing
around for it to prove you any more wrong than you've already proven
yourself.

Voter turnout was high because of the novelty of the recall election
and the star-attraction power of Arnold.
Most elections with higher-than-normal turnout favor 1) the
challenger (not the incumbent); and 2) the Democrats.
I've studied campaign politics far more than you, I can tell.
