I am 81 years old and lived when abortions were 'illegal'. The result was
terrible. Those that could not obtain abortions for religious or financial
reasons, suffered for twenty years raising an unwanted child. The unwanted
child suffered do to neglect and resentment.
Those that had the money and will to have an abortion, frequently suffered
serious physical damage and even death getting illegal abortions from back
alley abortionists of low competence and poor facilities.
I can't think of anything more backward and harmful to women and society
than reverting to abortion illegality.
This should be a women's personal decision - NOT a decision made by some
government bureaucracy.

I agree. Thanks for your post. I don't see how a representational
government elected by people of black and white mentality can ever
sanely come to the conclusion that government is what should decide
what we do with our bodies. The same government could tell us it's
illegal to drink or smoke because it ends life. So does eating too
much meat.
Abortion will continue to happen whether it is legal or not and the
same morality police who fight it now will be screaming bloody murder
when somebody they know is under the control of the government and
cannot have an abortion.
I actually hope it becomes illegal by way of the Supreme Court just
to see the outcry it causes.

I doubt the USSC would ever declare
abortion illegal. They may, however,
make the correct decision and put the
issue where it belongs ... in the states.

Excellent post. Unfortunately I think the lessons of history have been
forgotten and a new generation of extremist may get their way forcing
their religous views on everyone else. Perhaps then people will come
to their senses as they did when abortion was first made a legal right.

It'll have no effect.
You'll probably see an uptick in Canada and Mexaco, as well as the
Pacific Rim countries offering '3 day vaction specials'.
Already, you can fly to Tailand and get a tummy tuck at 1/3 the price,
and so, with air fare and hotel, it'd cost the same as in the US.

Well, the price of '3 day specials' will come down.
For example, cruse companies will offer offer them out of all our ports.
Remember, this is America, land of opportunity, and if you can offer
opportunity at a lower cost, Americans will go for it.

On the contrary, it won't stop there. Abraham Lincoln said " The best
way to get rid of a bad law is to strictly enforce it". I would expect
a grassroots movement to start insisting that the pregnant black girl
in the ghetto has the same "right" to bear the child as the white girl
living in the upper middle class. This would be implemented by
preventing any pregnant woman from leaving the country. The precedent
is already here; you can be arrested for making plans to go overseas
to engage in a child-sex vacation before you even leave the country.
So there is no reason to expect that the "Save all fetuses, not just
the poor ones" act could not also be passed.
