Laws are not being written to support "gay marriage", but instead,
wiser men and women are supporting the fair and equal treatment under
law of ALL citizens, regardless of who they choose to love, live with
or enter legal arrangements with.
Exactly. That's why over 3/4's of all states have now made same-sex "marriage" ILLEGAL.
Which is very un-American. This is the land of equal protection under
law. That people like you who seek to deny rights to others because
you "don't like it" are so common in America is saddening. Remember,
America was founded by freedom seekers desiring to part company with
people like you.
Other than saying that one thing or another is "un-American", exactly what
does the term mean?
Read below.
Even the leftist scumbag himself, Bill Clinton, made the Defense of Marriage
Act the law of the land.
People are totally fed up with the Homosexual Activists, you are absolutely
correct, Kevin!
Yea, and people like you were once fed up with Civil Rights activists
too, weren't you? What you and your fellow anti-freedom supporters
support is not any different from championing against White with Black
marriages, or Elderly with Young marriages... it's a damn shame you
feel the need to impose your small-minded ignorance upon others who
merely seek fair and equal legal rights.
Instead of ranting, why don't you make a case why you think that same sex
marriages should be the law of the land.
Well, Jerry, the primary reasons ARE already mentioned in the previous
response, but, OK, we'll try to explain things for you a little
better. Now, since you've specifically asked for me to make a case
for same sex partners to be treated as equal American citizens, then
I'll elaborate a bit, but you MUST hear my words with an open-mind and
be prepared to change your views (if, indeed, you are capable and
desirous).
I said, "Passing laws to deny equal legal rights to couples of the
same gender is un-American," after which you ask for a definition of
"un-American." Jerry, the preamble of our beloved Constitution starts
with the stated premise that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL (of course,
"men" here is meant in the "mankind" sense). The primary basis for
all following provisions of the American Constitution starts with that
fact -- that all citizens are enabled with certain rights that cannot
be infringed upon, and goes on to essentially claim that we are all to
be treated equally and fairly under the laws of our land. This has
been generally interpreted to mean that if, assuming you and your wife
are caucasion, that if you and your wife are afforded certain legal
advantages, then these same legal advantages must be afforded to
another man and his wife who may be of oriental descent. Agree?
Now, still following the above train of thought, if you and your wife
are afforded these rights or entitlements, then those same legal
rights should be afforded a black man and his white wife, correct?
Now, you may personally be uncomfortable with interracial marriage,
but our American constituion says though that may be, you do not have
the right to infringe on their right to be afforded equal rights by
law. Agree? Now, you may not like it... and you may belong to a
church, let's say, that damns it... and you may refuse to associate
with the interracial couple... maybe even sneer at them when you cross
paths, but you DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DENY THEM EQUAL LEGAL RIGHTS.
If you and your wife benefit from laws governing marriage, then they
should be allowed to benefit as well. Agree?
Now, simply change the description in the matters described. Whether
an American citizen is from oriental-descent, or black, or female, or
whatever shape, color, gender, religion or whatever description holds
for that person, they, should be equal citizens under law in America.
Agree?
Now, if you have a problem with same sex marriage... let's say a
female-female relationship, and these two law-abiding, cheerful women
choose to commit to one another, and choose to become legally married,
then they HAVE THAT RIGHT. It's simple American wisdom and principle,
clearly and boldly placed at the preamble of our primary governance
tract, Jerry.
If the laws have been used, or defined within, as between a male
gender member and a female gender partner, for thousands of years, the
unfair application should not be continued simply because it's "always
been done that way", regardless of the time. Remember, women could
not vote or be afforded equal rights for thousands upon thousands of
years. That it stood for so long, does not forbid it to be corrected
and updated to current American principles, as was done in earlier
years.
If your objection is centered on a Judeo-Christian upbringing, again,
this is not a valid reason to deny others their rights. Our country's
principles state that we are not to deny others equal rights under law
because of religious affiliation. Agree, Jerry?
If your objection is because the "plumbing", the genitals, are the
same rather than naturally interlocking, well, friend, you and I would
agree that by nature and the evolutionary drive of life that men and
women are going to probably continue to be the majority, and they will
be the one's to biologically bear new children, the continuation of
the species, in our world. But, as observed in nature, a minority of
virtually all species known to man will at times engage in same-gender
sexual activity. In some cases, they may PREFER the same sex,
although this would be much rarer. Now, when you consider mankind,
things are much different. Man has evolved to less driven and guided
by nature, but has parted from our "animal instincts" to the point
where man chooses all sorts of different behaviors that "just ain't
natural." Thing about it.
And if your objection is that the thought of what a couple of
same-gender couples might do in the privacy of their homes, then,
Jerry, that's YOUR PROBLEM. Your own sexual identity issues are NOT
to be imposed on others, at least and foremost regarding the equal
rights under law as assigned by the American Constitution.
Jerry, I'm going to mention a bit about me, only because it would be
easy for you to assume otherwise, but in the context of this
discussion I feel it's important you know this: I am a white,
heterosexual American male who personally is grossed out by a few of
the activities generally assumed to take place between same-sex
couples. But I live by principle (as increasingly uncommon as that is
in America) and I HAVE NO RIGHT to deny others the same legal benefits
that I enjoy. Simple as that.
So, Jerry, in closing, if you are truly a man who cherishes the noble
principles that America was founded upon, then you must agree with
me... that you have no right to deny others the same legal rights as
yourself. Period.
Looking forward to your response...
Kevin
The words of civilization, coming through with crystal clarity ...
