Why are we in Iraq?
Because John Kerry AUTHORIZED us to go into Iraq, Baxter.
...based on information supplied by the Bush administration, much of
which
was incorrect and misleading (possibly *deliberately* incorrect).
Would you vote for someone who votes to
authorize war without doing his own research?
I can accept the idea that some of the information came from the Clinton
administration and some of it came from the Bush administration, but
members
of Congress do not have access to the same sources of information that
presidents have.
Is that true for the members of the Intelligence
Committees of the House and Senate?
Apparently so. A number of them (including some Republicans) have expressed
outrage because they were not kept apprised of the abuse of prisoners that
was exposed by the recent photos.
The White House (any administration) seems to make the decision concerning
what specific information will be released to them, and this is always open
to questions of accountability.
Remember how angry members of this committee were because Jimmy Carter did
not keep them informed before sent the (failed) rescue mission (helicopters)
to Iran in an attempt to rescue the Embassy hostages?
