Read this, then loudly demand Rumsfeld's resignation! |
During the "planning" for the war on Iraq, Secretary-of-Defense Donald
Rumsfeld held a planning meeting with high-ranking officials under his
command. According to highly-regarded general, Maj. Gen. John Batiste,
who led the 1st Infantry Division in Iraq and also senior military
assistant to then-Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, attendees
strongly suggested that Rumsfeld develop a postwar plan for Iraq.
Rumsfeld's response? He threatened to fire the next person who
mentioned the need for a postwar plan in Iraq.

Now, who should resign?

Bert, why would you take this absurd position? It's obvious that
Donald Rumsfeld is the responsible party, the leader of the group, and
the one who had the authority to make the decision. Those under his
command advised him properly. He threatened to fire the next person
who even mentioned the need for postwar planning.
So, to answer your question, the obvious answer is that it is Rumsfeld
who should resign.

1st:
A reference would be nice to verify that this is not merely an opinion or
interesting elaboration or even fabrication.
2nd:
Bert does make an interesting point. Leadership does not end with those in
charge. If indeed the statement made by BS is true, where is the courage of
the 'conviction' of these men? How strongly could they have believed in what
they were saying if, in effect and as stated by Bert, they just "sat down
and shut up"?
You may defend these men as honorable, but the reality dictates that they
are not honorable at all (again, if the original post is accurate).
Honorable men pay whatever price necessary for the convictions they hold.
Otherwise, their convictions aren't worth a cent, and nor are they.

Shows what little you know about how the US military works.
The chain of command goes from the President to the SECDEF through the
Chairman of the JCS to the Unified and Specified Commanders.
He threatened to fire the next person who even mentioned the need for
postwar planning.
And every single one of them sat down and shut up.
And you would have (fill in the blank) ___________________________________
