Privette leaves Christian Action League
EMILY S. ACHENBAUM
Former state legislator Coy Privette, a Cabarrus County commissioner
and retired Baptist minister facing charges related to prostitution,
resigned from the presidency of the Christian Action League on North
Carolina Saturday, according to the group's executive director.
Privette contacted the Christian Action League by email at to give his
resignation, Rev. Mark H. Creech said.
In the email, Privette wrote:
"Because of the nature of the allegations, I believe it is in the best
interest for me to resign so that the charges will not distract from
the important work of the Christian Action League."
Privette had already been suspended from the league on Thursday until
the court case is resolved.
Privette is also expected to resign from his leadership post with the
State Baptist Convention of North Carolina, convention leaders said
last week.
Privette, a 74-year-old Republican, was charged Thursday with six
counts of aiding and abetting prostitution by renting a Salisbury
hotel room and paying for sexual acts with 32-year-old Tiffany Denise
Summers, who was charged with six counts of prostitution, according to
arrest warrants.
