Green Oaks mayor hit with child porn charges
BY ASSOCIATED PRESS
The mayor of the small northern Illinois community of Green Oaks has
been charged with distributing child pornography over the Internet.
Mayor Thomas Adams, 68, is accused of using at least three different
screen names to send e-mails with pornographic attachments beginning
in March 2005, said Lake County assistant state's attorney Patricia
Fix.
Adams was arrested Monday and a judge set his bond at $100,000.
"These are very unfortunate charges," said Adams' attorney, Thomas
Briscoe of Waukegan.
"We will have an answer to them at the appropriate time."
The FBI traced e-mails carrying child pornography that were received
in Clearwater, Fla., back to Adams' computer, Fix said.
Investigators then found multiple images of child pornography stored
in a computer during a search of Adams' home, she added.
Adams has been mayor of Green Oaks since 1993 and previously served as
a trustee for 12 years.
He also served for two years as chairman of the Lake County Republican
Party.
Lake Villa Township Supervisor Daniel Venturi, the current county GOP
chairman, called Adams' arrest "a total shock."
Village leaders also were stunned.
"When something like this comes up, you're speechless," Green Oaks
Trustee Bernard Wysocki said.
Adams' next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 10.
