Candidate thought to be a fugitive is removed from ballot
Associated Press
A congressional candidate believed to be a fugitive is off the ballot
for the September primary.
Authorities believe Jack Shepard is the man charged in a 22-year-old
Minneapolis arson case.
Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer says she agrees and removed Shepard
from the ballot yesterday.
Kiffmeyer says Shepard can't run because he can't vote, and he can't
vote because he hasn't finished probation on a 1979 felony sex assault
charge.
Shepard denies he is on probation.
He had pledged to move to Minnesota if he won.
He filed from Rome last month as a Republican in the Fourth
Congressional District, which includes the eastern Twin Cities area.
He would have run in the primary against Republican-endorsed Patrice
Bataglia.

I don't understand why they won't let him run. He fits the right wing
profile.
