Charlottesville, Virginia -- Kevin Alfred Strom stalked a ten year old
girl, at one point coming to her elementary school and trying to
persuade her to leave and have sex with him, federal prosecutors have
said in a pre-trial motion filed in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Strom sent the girl an angora sweater -- to make her more like the
girl in Stanley Kubrick's version of the movie "Lolita" -- as well as
CDs, DVDs and other unwanted gifts. The girl's parents moved her to
another school when they learned that Strom was stalking their
daughter, including hiding behind a tree outside her school. Strom,
however, found out the girl's new school and continued harassing her.
He also composed a song to the girl, to the tune "Here We Come A
Wassailing", that included the lyrics "my love for her is not a sin".
Federal prosecutors say they seized "hundreds" of child pornography
images from Strom's computer, and that Strom's wife, Elisha, found him
masturbating while looking at child porn, prompting the end of their
marriage. Federal agents also found hundreds of pictures of the girl
Strom was stalking.
After his wife discovered Strom's involvement in child porn, Strom
began a campaign of harassment against her which included physical
assault and Internet-based smears, including spreading rumors that she
turned him in to the federal authorities. In reality, the parents of
the girl Strom was stalking were the initial complaining witnesses.
A defense motion asked that the stalking charges be separated from the
child pornography charges.
The trial in the Strom case starts June 20, unless the schedule is
altered.
