Right Wing Swiftboats Generals Who Called on Rumsfeld to Resign
The right has wasted no time impugning the character and motivations
of the seven generals who have spoken out against Secretary Rumsfeld.

Right-wing bloggers, columnists, and television hosts have accused the
generals of hurting troop morale, harboring personal grievances,
chasing book deals and generally having partisan motivations.
Most generals, however, are not political appointees of any sort.
While Defense secretaries have had the prerogative to nominate
four-star generals and admirals (only one of the generals who have
spoken out -- Zinni -- is four-star), the selection of one-, two- and
three-star officers has been left to each service’s normal selection
and promotion procedures.

Like so many CanCan dancers strutting their shapely legs before a
lustful audience, the Clinton generals seem to be auditioning for the
next Democrat administration--But seeing retired general officers pick
up the pompoms and cheerleading for the Democrats is really over the
top: it shows nothing but contempt for military honor and tradition.

A number of retired Generals have recently criticized SecDef Rumsfeld
and demanded his departure. Big Lizards has a very interesting take on
these ex-military types, including their Clintonoid backgrounds,
plodding lack of originality in military matters, inefficiency, and
outright dishonesty when comparing their statements before the Iraq
War began and more recent statements on the situation in the Middle
East.

Currently, there are many retired generals appearing in frenetic
fashion on television--Apart from the ethical questions involved in
promoting a book or showcasing a media appearance during a time of war
by offering an "inside" view unknown to others of the supposedly
culpable administration of the military, what is striking is the empty
nature of these controversies rehashed ad nauseam.
The only thing the right has proven is that it’s willing to attack
anyone who disagrees with the President.

The only thing the right has proven is that it's willing to attack
anyone who disagrees with the President.

Well, that's their MO. If it does not agree, Slander it, smear, supress it,
call it a liar, then bring in a chorus of asskisers like hannity and
limbaugh to verity that they are all enemies of the state, Anti-Amrican
liberals who hate bush so much they are in collusion with Al-quaida, then
have the whole conregation pray for bush to continue to slay brown
non-christains unabated.

That is what they are going for, they are failing and are to stupid to see
their own failure.

Yes indeed. But, here a great point about their new hatred for the retired
generals. These kids have been telling everyone since 2000, that the
military is a republican stronghold, one told me the other day it was like
80% republican. But, now that generals have asked rummy to step down, they
are all liberals! They want it everyway. If the puzzel piece doesn't fit,
they just cut it and hammer it in anyway. One day the military is
republican, the next liberal.
How do they come up with such *****.

You generalize and oversimplify everything. You think as if 5 generals
are indicative of the military and that when some people rightly
critique the 5 generals, they are critiquing the entire military. That
is absolutely not the case.
But the facts of the matter is that civilians rule the military. When
Clinton told some GIs to wear the UN hats, they had absolutely no right
to disobey that order. Regardless of what the people thought of Clinton
at the time, and in particular, the military. Orders are orders.
Civilians issue them, and soldiers follow them. Truman was right to
fire McArthur and should have done it sooner.
Thus, if you are a general and you are trying to undermine the civilian
authority of the military by engaging in public politics, than you are
being severely insubordinate. To this day I do not know why Lincoln
did not have McClellan shot for treason and establish a precedent for
civilian rule over generals - hell, even the Soviets got that one
right.
You can't ever, ever, ever, let the public be tempted into confusing
military rule for civilian rule. It's just not worth it. These
***** generals, in trying to "get back at Rummy", even if Rummy did
EVERYTHING they say he did, still are managing to undermine American
democracy 10 times more than Rumsfeld ever could, surely by undermining
civilian rule of the military.

It's that I'm pointing out that your own side uses the same tactics,
but I guess that went over your little pea head. Why don't you save
humanity the carbon dioxide and drill a hole in it!
