Less is Moore in subdued, effective '9/11'
May 18, 2004 BY ROGER EBERT FILM CRITIC
CANNES, France -- Michael Moore the muckraking wiseass has been
replaced by a more subdued version in "Fahrenheit 9/11," his new
documentary questioning the anti-terrorism credentials of the Bush
regime. In the Moore version, President Bush, his father and members
of their circle have received $1.5 billion from Saudi Arabia over the
years, attacked Iraq to draw attention from their Saudi friends, and
have lost the hearts and minds of many of the U.S. servicemen in the
war.
The film shows American soldiers not in a prison but in the field,
hooding an Iraqi, calling him Ali Baba, touching his genitals and
posing for photos with him. There are other scenes of U.S. casualties
without arms or legs, questioning the purpose of the Iraqi invasion at
a time when Bush proposed to cut military salaries and benefits. It
shows Lila Lipscomb, a mother from Flint, Mich., reading a letter from
her son, who urged his family to help defeat Bush, days before he was
killed. And in a return to the old Moore confrontational style, it
shows him joined by a Marine recruiter as he encourages congressmen to
have their sons enlist in the services.
Despite these dramatic moments, the most memorable footage for me
involved President Bush on Sept. 11. The official story is that Bush
was meeting with a group of pre-schoolers when he was informed of the
attack on the World Trade Center and quickly left the room. Not quite
right, says Moore. Bush learned of the first attack before entering
the school, "decided to go ahead with his photo op," and began to read
My Pet Goat to the students. Informed of the second attack, he
incredibly remained with the students for another seven minutes,
reading from the book, until a staff member suggested that he leave.
The look on his face as he reads the book, knowing what he knows, is
disquieting. Rest of article at

The Saudis have been annoying for a LONG time now
and everybody knows it. Bush didn't HAVE to distract
any attention away from them since it was business
as usual.

The film shows American soldiers not in a prison but in the field,

I just doesn't have the same ring when it's a volunteer
army dontchaknow. No wonder the Dems want to bring back
the draft ... they're hoping to create recruits for
their party.

The first attack wasn't known to be an "attack". It
could easily have been an accident. Only after the
2nd hit was it clear it was terrorism. As for "W"s
behavior - it was in the best tradition of dignified
cool-headed leaders.
When panicked messengers found the British admirals
with news that a Spanish armada had been spotted,
the admirals calmly finished their game of bowls
and THEN took care of business. Their calm demeanor
set the perfect tone. Apparently YOU think "W" should
have started squawking and running around like a
beheaded chicken when the bad news came ... yea,
THAT would have set a useful 'tone' alright ...
"W" did good. Those seven minutes proved he was
a leader, not just a bureaucrat.
As for Mikey Moore ... just another disinformation
artist. Take a thousand little truths and arrange
them into one big lie - that's Mikey. He's damned
lucky they quit arresting people for 'sedition'
because he'd deserve to be the first one thrown
into the dungeon.

The lies that come for Bush apologists are tiring. They knew! THEY KNEW!
It was a highjacking! They knew!

I saw the look on Bush's face during those minutes. It was the look of a
man who was warned of the consequences of not doing a certain thing (like
spending most of his time on terrorism as Clinton warned him) and then
realizing in a moment that the deaths were his own personal fault for not
doing his duty which was to defend against terrorist. Look at his face.
That is what you see! Nothing else. The derelection of duty was followed
by the classical over reaction of the guilty after the fact.

"W" did good. Those seven minutes proved he was

Yep! He was a leader! He piloted the ship of state right into a quagmire.

We KNOW there are effective medications for your condition ...
but nobody KNEW what was happening when the first plane hit

WOW ... you can read all THAT from a two-second facial
expression ??? Hey, the CIA could use you ! Give 'em a
call.

Gee ... I never said Mikey should be TORTURED. Maybe
his cell should be wall-papered with writings by Ann
Coulter and every TV night should feature Charleton
Heston movies, but otherwise ...

It must be especially irritating to the pro-Israeli block who

I'll admit that for _me_, that's part of it. Another part is
that it is wrong to undertake the projects that are on the
drawingboard and already underway without adequate manpower.
It's unfair to the troops.

Yup. All our cool and collected leaders calmly went about their
business while the 'New Pearl Harbor' that they had written
needing proceeded to take out the trade center buildings and the
Pentagon. That is 'leadership' all right. Leo 'ends justify
means' Strauss would be proud.

As for Mikey Moore ... just another disinformation
artist.

True or not, he seems to be a damn effective one. You better
hope and pray that his film doesn't get widely distributed in
America before the election (assuming we have another one.)

Take a thousand little truths and arrange them into
one big lie - that's Mikey. He's damned lucky they quit

For arranging 'thousands of little truthes', eh? I doubt that
it will be long before the 'good old days' are back. You didn't
explicitiy say that you longed for them, but it seems implicit
in your support for the Cheney administration.
Thanks,
- Tom

He probably thinks a bureaucracy as large and fragmented
as the US government can just snap into action inside of
five minutes. I'm amazed the FAA got all of the planes
down as FAST as they did without any accidents. I'm even
more amazed there was anyone AT the FAA offices capable
of and willing to make such a decision.

Yeah and after the second attack bush still just sat their doing
nothing. Then he got in AF1 and flew around all day. And the
"liberal" press gave him a pass on this cowardly behavior.
