Giuliani: World economy can survive attack
http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D8GUDRDG4.htm?campaign_id=apn_home_down&chan=db
APR. 12 6:59 A.M. ET Former New York Mayor
Rudolph Giuliani said Wednesday that another
Sept. 11-like terror attack would be disastrous
but he was confident the world economy could
withstand it.
"New York survived Sept. 11, America survived
Sept. 11, the world did," Giuliani told reporters.
"It's not something that you hope happens
but if it did, I would think America, New York,
the world economy would survive that also.
We're much stronger than we think we are."
Giuliani made the comments on the sidelines of
an international financial conference he attended
in South Korea's capital organized by the
Financial Times newspaper.
"If it were to happen again, it would be catastrophic,"
Giuliani said. "Just given the fact that you learn
from prior things that happen it probably would be
handled better, if you can handle something like
that better. The impact of it is just beyond anyone."
Giuliani now heads his own company, Giuliani Partners LLP,
which focuses on emergency preparedness, public safety
and corporate governance.

Hmmmmmm .................
I wonder how the financial costs of the 9/11 attack (or even the Katrinia
disaster) compare
with the recent exposed, outrageous, salary of the Exxon
criminal............

Since Giuliani profited handsomely from 9/11, what do you expect from
him but to say about future large scale terrorist attacks but that the
world economy could handle them? As the terrorists were preparing to
launch their attacks on 9/11, what was the priority for the New York
Police Department: operating speed traps on Queens Blvd., where unlucky
jaywalkers were being mowed down by cars travelling over 35 mph. Post
9/11, the NYPD is staking out subway tunnels, in case of a terrorist
attack there (and as a way of jamming cops in the doghouse, who are
stuck in the hole watching trains go by).
Being a heartless drone is typical of Giuliani, who finds it easy to
separate he human cost of 9/11 (mass murder, the war in Iraq, the shock
to the public and the still-unknown effects of worker and civilian
exposure to 9/11 WTC collapse released carcinogens and toxins) from the
economic cost (jobs lost forever, from the downtown Manhattan area to
airlines).
When Giuliani was Mayor, he made it difficult to impossible (using
tactics courts later ruled illegal) for poor New Yorkers to collect
Federal food stamps, figuring that if these people got hungry they
would move. His Police Commissioner and friend, Bernard Kerik, was a
shakedown artist who never paid his bills. In private, as Mayor, he
would engage in screamouts at his staff. And Giuliani, "America's
Mayor", cheated on his wife in public.
The economy still isn't handling well the after effects of 9/11, from
$3 a gallon gasoline to skyrocketing real estate taxes to the collapse
of the U.S. airline industry. Self serving lies in the cause of
Giuliani is typical of this ex-Mayor.

America's economy is doing great. Looks like the DOW will hit 12,000.00 this
year. Sales of homes has never ever been better in history. Mortgage Rates
have stayed low for years. And once we start pumping oil in ANWR & stop
relying on foreign oil our prices will plummet.

America's economy is doing great.

For whom? Certainly not the majority. Ever research the "real" economy and
its implications? Any idea what the impact of the humongous national debt
and trade deficits will be in the not-too-distant future?
Looks like the DOW will hit 12,000.00 this

year.

So? DOW is a cash cow indicator only for a select few...
Matters none to those not invested...Again, the majority. Savings rate at
or near zero...not since 1938 has it been so dismal.
Sales of homes has never ever been better in history.
Wild-eyed, untrue claim. Houses for sale are languishing on the market in
certain areas, like no time in history.
Mortgage Rates

have stayed low for years.

Another "So?"
Property taxes have skyrocketed. Balloon mortgages will burst for millions.
And once we start pumping oil in ANWR & stop

relying on foreign oil our prices will plummet.

You are one clueless little fellow, aren't you?
Levels aren't estimated to be appreciable by any of the so-called experts.
And any finds will take upwards of 10 years to produce. And even at that,
will most likely be shipped out.

Segments of the economy are doing great, the oil patch was never more
profitable, investment bankers are making money hand over fist and
ex-politicians turned lobbyists are raking in the shekels. But the
U.S. airline industry is shedding employees by the thousands, hundreds
of thousands of pensioned employees at bankrupt large companies are
having their defined pensions and health insurance cut to ribbons by
see-no-evil U.S Bankruptcy Court judges and the U.S. balance of trade
and budget deficit are the worst ever. Don't forget about the American
soldiers getting killed in Iraq to defend OPEC's right to set oil
prices in Iraq.
And the U.S. educational system is a mess, with a 30% high school
dropout rate, a failing educational system highlighted by
GooseSteppingLiberals deranged analysis of the current state of
affairs. The Dow Jones will not hit 12,000 this year, 80% of families
in growth areas like South Florida cannot afford to buy homes, the low
mortgage rates are going up and real estate taxes are skyrocketing,
along with the price of electricty and gasoline.
By the way, the ANWR reserves will take ten years to develop and reduce
U.S. oil imports by at most 4% (assuming the Exxon and BP don't ship
the oil to Japan).
It takes real skill to be wrong on so many facts in such a short
posting, but GooseSteppingLiberals is up to the task.
