Mental patients and advocates sued the state Thursday over Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger's veto of funding for a $55 million program for
mentally ill, homeless adults, saying the action violated a voter-
approved law and endangered services to 4,700 people.
Schwarzenegger eliminated funding for the program in August as part of
$703 million in cuts to a state budget that had been delayed for
nearly two months by Republican legislators, who insisted on spending
reductions before ending the deadlock.
