Senate passes Democrats anti-pork ethics bill |

Senate approves greater disclosure of pet projects, fundraising
WASHINGTON (AP) --
The Senate voted Thursday to make lawmakers disclose more about their
efforts to fund pet projects and raise money from lobbyists, a move
some called the biggest advance in congressional ethics in decades.
The ethics bill requires lawmakers to disclose their earmarks 48 hours
before voting for them.
The 83 to 14 vote, which sends the bill to President Bush, prompted
Democrats to claim fulfillment of their 2006 campaign promise to crack
down on lobbying abuses that sent some lawmakers and a prominent
lobbyist to prison.

They probably only signed it after all the loopholes were identified
and they had had significant briefings on workarounds.

Absofrigginlutely.
No 'reform' laws get put on the books before the
important politicians have ways to get around the
new rules.
And as for cheering these 'reforms' - forget it. The
bastards voted for the new domestic spying bill ...
even a lot of Democrats. A hundred little 'good' things
won't cover up THAT horrorshow.

It's worth noting that all 14 votes against it were, in fact, from
Republicans.
