Auto racing just wastes gas and for no purpose. If racing fans were
patriots they'd boycott the "sport" as long as soldiers are dying in
iraq.

Most of the times these days I ignore your posts, but this one is
interesting!
I want to encourage every Democrat out there to take this to heart and go to
your Senator and/or Congressman and push for this!
Just see how far it will get you!!!!
LOL!

Don't ban it. Let 'em run a 500 on 20 gallons. That will make it more like
what it is, which is watching your local beltway waiting for a wreck.

The public doesn't have documentation of hundreds of billions in
boondoggle military development in Iraq. If the Bushes haven't stolen any
oil they don't want to admit it to thier stockholders.

Gee... I'd be more interested in the "murder a few hundred thousand
people" part. I suppose it's possible that the poster was talking
about how Saddam ran the Iraq.

Just how many did Saddam kill?>>>

We've found about a million dead bodies in mass graves.

God only knows how many more millions he killed, or allowed to starve,
while Saddam built his 17th football stadium sized palace.

How many did Bush kill? >>

About ten thousand of the enemy - almost none of them citizens.
Frankly, American lives were lost to keep the Iraqi citizen casualty
rate low. Meanwhile, terrorists have lost a source of funding and a
safe haven to hide and train.

Accurate estimates range from 25,000 to 26,000. I still don't
understand why we didn't attack the Sudan, that is ruled by a real
monster.

Wrong. It says "believed". (read your own cite) There has been no
proof. Actually, so far, only 5000 bodies have been confirmed.

How many have died in the US in the last 5 years because they don't
have medical insurance? Do you know? Bet you don't .

Try more like 25,000 - 100,000 depending on your survey methods. ALL
of them civilians.

rate low. Meanwhile, terrorists have lost a source of funding and a

To the extent that air, water and food are manufactured products that
you purchase on the open market, and you believe are being wastefully
used by some other consumer of those products so that you're unable
to buy your fair share at the price you want to pay, absolutely.

Actually stock cars don't use much that much gas. They get about 7
miles a gallon-- better mileage than many of the SUVs which customers
drive to the track. The amount of fuel used is so small, Sunoco
actually gives it away for free to the Cup and other national touring
series drivers (though minor league drivers do pay for their own fuel.)
And the innovations which led to better performance on the track do
lead to more efficient passenger cars. (Although it is worth
mentioning that Nascar uses a basic engine design which became obsolete
on the street over 20 years ago. Jimmie Johnson and his buddies
basically drive very, very highly refined 1978 Camaros.)
Racing fuel, BTW, is quite different from what you buy at the pump.

It should be banned just for what it is: racing for dummies. Oval
racing is a no-brainer. And the cars are not even technologically
advanced: they still use carbs and those cylindrical air cleaners-
those round things on top of the engine of your dad's Oldsmobile
Cutlass Supreme.

Why not make auto races a technology demonstration of other
fuels (non fossil)? Let's have some electric car races, some fuel cell
races, some hydrogen powered races, or even some landsailer races
(wind powered).

They do. They don't get funding from GM, Ford, Honda, Exxon, Delco and
Firestone. Politicians do though, and so they promote infomercials like
NASCAR as well.
