Apparently the Reverend Jerry Falwell is in critical condition with a
relapse of pneumonia. Perhaps the doctors should give him a "Pope Deluxe"
tracheotomy. That would be welcomed if it would shut him up. There has never
been a more maniacal, spin weaving, politico than Jerry Falwell. It is one
thing to be a preacher and teach religion from the pulpit. It is another
thing to hide behind a tax exemption and use the pulpit to promote political
candidates and political initiatives.
If a preacher wants to meddle in politics, then let his church pay taxes and
be under the same election contribution scrutiny as any other organization.
It is disingenuous to spend a few minutes telling believers that some desert
roaming profit loves them and then spend 45 minutes convincing a
congregation they will go to hell if they do not vote one way or another.
Jerry Falwell is going to be very surprised when he gets to Saint Peter's
gate. Falwell will soon find out they don't let politicians into heaven.

True enough, Ronald Reagan stuck to his guns. The difference between him and
other politicians was his choice of guns. --- Brian David Smith, June 12,
