+++ PULLING THE RUG OUT FROM UNDER CENSORSHIP +++
"I can't even rent a movie from Blockbuster without worrying that my kids
will be exposed to sex or filthy language," complains one parent.
"I don't want my children watching cruelty, violence, or gore," says
another.
Many families like these sought legislation or regulation to censor
sex, gutter language, or violence. They went after books and
magazines. Movies. TV and radio. And video and DVD rentals. And the
Internet.
Censorship didn't work in the past. It doesn't work now. It won't
work in the future.
But there are ways for families to regulate what they or their
children are exposed to.
Provided by the marketplace, not the government. Provided by business
people, not bureaucrats.
ClearPlay offers a $70 DVD player that "filters out" violence, nudity, and
dirty words in over 100 movies. They're expanding their movie list
monthly. You can download another 600 movie titles with "filter out"
software. You can get ClearPlay at WalMart.
MovieMask (http://www.moviemask.com/) offers software that edits
scenes and mutes words when movies are played on your computer.
CleanFlicks and the Movie Shield Box offer other filtering options
for families.
The marketplace lets families decide what's right for them - without
imposing their values on their neighbors.
Imagine the day when this same mindset can be applied to politics and
voting. Each person's vote would be binding on him and him alone. Without
imposing his values on you and me.

+++ DR. BERNIE SIEGEL'S PROVOCATIVE QUESTION +++
by Michael Cloud © 2003
Dr. Bernie Siegel is a surgeon who has learned extraordinary lessons in
self-healing from cancer patients who beat the odds.
Exceptional patients. Medical science predicts one cancer patient
will die within two years. He finds a way to live TEN years. Health
care statistics give another cancer sufferer one year to live, but
she refuses to "go gently into the night" -- and thrives for seven
more glorious summers. A third is told to make his peace with God,
say goodbye to his family, and get his affairs in order, because he
has just weeks to live. He lives for another half-dozen years.
Doctors used to label these cancer cases as "misdiagnosed" or "in
spontaneous remission." Or they would shrug their shoulders and move on.
Not Bernie Siegel. He got curious. He read the medical literature. He
quizzed his colleagues. He studied these Exceptional Cancer Patients. He
asked them questions. He talked with them and their families.
How did these cancer patients beat the odds? What's different about
them?
In 1986, Dr. Siegel published what he learned in a wonderful book
entitled "Love, Medicine, and Miracles." It's a book about key
psychological and spiritual elements that enhance healing. And this
was just the beginning of Bernie Siegel's journey into the area.
While reading one of his books, I came upon an extraordinary exchange
between him and a "terminal" cancer patient -- an exchange that could
change your outlook and your life.
A woman was suffering from an ugly, virulent, and relentless form of
cancer. She had read every book and study available about her cancer. She
wanted to live. She was actively searching for options. Yet she had run
into a wall.
"Dr. Siegel," she said. "I've read all the literature. I've studied
new experimental regimens. I don't see a way to beat this. Isn't it
true that my cancer is 100% fatal?"
Bernie Siegel answered, "It's true. No one has ever survived your
form of cancer...Wouldn't you like to be the first?"
Dr. Bernie Siegel's Provocative Question opened an extraordinary
possibility for that brave woman.
And it opens a stunning possibility for libertarians.
Isn't it true that there has never been a libertarian country? Yes.
Wouldn't you like America to be the first?
Isn't it true that Big Government in America gets bigger and bigger
every year...100% of the time? Yes, it does. Wouldn't you like to be the
first to reverse the process and roll it back to small government?
Isn't it true that no "Abolish the State Income Tax" Initiative has
ever succeeded? Yes. Wouldn't you like to spearhead the first?
Isn't it true that no political party has ever supplanted the
Democratic or Republican Parties? Yes, it's true. Wouldn't you like
the Libertarian Party to be the first?
Isn't it true that no libertarian has been elected to the U.S. Senate or
as governor? Yes. Wouldn't you like to be the first?
Dr. Siegel's cancer patient understood the alternatives: surrender to
death -- or actively try to be the first to survive.
We libertarians must understand our political alternatives: surrender to
ever-growing Big Government -- or actively try to be the first libertarian
society.
Dr. Bernie Siegel's Provocative Question is a challenge to us.
There has never been a libertarian society. Wouldn't you like America to
be the first?

+++ WORLD FREEDOM SUMMIT IN NEW ZEALAND JULY 21 - 26 +++
The International Society for Individual Liberty invites you to
"meet, learn, debate, explore, and party with free market and liberty-
minded people from around the world."
Among the distinguished speakers:
Roger Douglas, former Finance Minister of New Zealand, will tell how he

during the 1980's - and helped create New Zealand's post- socialist
"economic miracle."
Elbegdorj Tsakhia, former Prime Minister of Mongolia, led the
demonstrations that ended the 70-year communist dictatorship in his
country. Hear his story - and what he's doing now.
Michael Cloud, Editor of Small Government News, will deliver a speech
entitled, "The Battlefield or the Marketplace"- and give a seminar on
Persuasive Libertarian Communication. He looks forward to endlessly
interesting conversations and encounters with libertarians from around the
globe.
Also speaking will be Templeton Freedom Prize Winner, Barun Mitra of

+++ WHY ARE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT CARLA HOWELL'S MIND-OPENING
"FREEDOM IN SCHOOLING" PRODUCT? +++
What is "Maybe We Would Be Amazed"? And why are homeschooling,
private schooling, and parochial schooling families talking about it?
Why are more than a few families who keep their children out of
government-run public schools buzzing about this amazing libertarian
product?
And why are they getting it for their neighbors, friends, and co-
workers?
Word-of-Mouth excitement, that's why.
Finally, a way to melt through pro-public school bias. A gentle,
subtle way to open people's minds to the possibility of freedom in
education.
Why Public Education? Because it forms the foundation of support for Big
Government. When we get families out of government-run public schools, we
get them into freedom.
