We have a national language. Obviously, it is English, but companies
that cater to those who do not speak English are promoting a divided
America.

well, since JFK was assassinated by the CIA, that is certainly a
reasonable question.
Then, there was the conspiracy by the Big Media to cite Goldwater *out
of context* and smear him in the same way that they torpedoed gov John
Dean in more recent times.
AT the end of the day, democracy depends on a *rational* electorate.
What I have seen is a fairly steady slide since JFK twards neurosis.

U.S. companies do business all over the world. Spanish is the second
most used language in the world.
Do you hate U.S. companies so much you want to see them fail in the
global economy?
It's obvious you haven't called the Republican National Committee
lately.
Guess what the first thing you'll hear is on their phone lines.

No Bjorn, English and <another language that is not Spanish> speakers
form 95 percent of the world population. You just think Spanish
is popular because in your environment it is prevalent.

You mean my electricity provider, telephone company and water company
are doing business with spain? WOW
Oh, and by the way, please look up your crap before you post it.
Again, you're dead wrong:
----------------------
1. Mandarin
Number of speakers: 1 billion+
Surprise, surprise, the most widely spoken language on the planet is
based in the most populated country on the planet. Beating second-place
English by a 2 to 1 ratio, but don't let that lull you into thinking
that Mandarin is easy to learn. Speaking Mandarin can be really tough,
because each word can be pronounced in four ways (or "tones"), and a
beginner will invariably have trouble distinguishing one tone from
another. But if over a billion people could do it, so could you. Try
saying hello!
To say "hello" in Mandarin, say "Ni hao" (Nee HaOW). ("Hao" is
pronounced as one syllable, but the tone requires that you let your
voice drop midway, and then raise it again at the end.)

Nice little copy and paste job.
You're missing the point entirely. There are far more Spanish speakers
in the US than there are Mandarin speakers. According to "Languages
Spoken at Home," a set of data released by the US Census Bureau in 2000,
Spanish is spoken in 10.710% of American homes. All spoken varieties of
Chinese are spoken in 0.78% of American homes. Spanish is the second
fastest growing language in the US. It is therefore a wise business
decision for US businesses to accommodate people who speak Spanish.
But hey, you've never been one to let facts, rational thought, and
reasoning get in the way of a good argument, have you?

Er, yes, they likely are. My electricity provider is Xcel Energy. They
have
divisions in numerous states, and quite a few countries too. Telephone
company?
You've never heard of International Long Distance? Water often has
international
ties, since water crosses national boundaries.
Why does all of this come as such a surprise to you?

Cool, thanks for the info. I didn't think Spanish was the most commonly
spoken
language, but I didn't guess Mandarin.

utilities?

English is the number one language used in the world in business, which
is what your original post was about.
