Swift boat liar admits he has no proof for his claims against Kerry |
The right wing canard proves to be nothing but...
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A veteran who disputed Democratic presidential
candidate John Kerry (news - web sites)'s Vietnam war record
acknowledged on Sunday he had no proof to back his charge that Kerry
fabricated the reports of enemy fire that won him two medals.
Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Van Odell, a member of the group Swift
Boat Veterans for Truth that has spearheaded a campaign against
Kerry's service record, said his was one of seven eyewitness accounts
and he was not being directed by President Bush (news - web sites)'s
campaign.
He has charged that then Navy Lt. Kerry, a Swift boat commander,
fabricated the "after-action" report saying he faced enemy fire on
March 13, 1969, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star and his third
Purple Heart for being wounded while pulling a fellow soldier to
safety.
"I do not have a single document," Odell said. "I have the fact that I
wasn't wounded in that 5,000 meters of fire that he wrote about."
"There was no enemy fire from either bank," he added.
The assertion was another broadside in a debate that has been raging
for weeks, and with at least one CBS poll showing the issue cutting
into Kerry's support among veterans, the Massachusetts senator has
accused the group of collaborating with the Bush campaign and demanded
Bush repudiate the ads.
Odell said he had met with Republican strategist Merrie Spaeth, a
public relations consultant to his group, and once bought a home from
Bob Perry, a large Republican donor from Texas and close associate of
Karl Rove, the president's chief political adviser.

incident that earned him his first Purple Heart: "As we approached the
enemy, there was a brief exchange of gunfire. I took a grenade in hand,
pulled the pin, and tossed it in the direction of the farmhouse. It wasn't a
very good pitch (remember, I was used to catching passes, not throwing
them). In the darkness, the grenade must have struck a tree and bounced off.
It exploded nearby, sending a sliver of metal into my leg--the sort of
injury the Army patched up with Mercurochrome and a Purple Heart."

Several of the Swifters claims have been discredited.
Any work of "history" is discredited when it contains deliberate falsehood.
One doesn't need to discredit or even read the book at all (if I see a copy
I might spit on it) if enough of the key witnesses are proven to be liars.

And several of Kerry's statement have been proven to be lies! Here are a
couple
1. That he was in Cambodia on Christmas eve 1968 on orders of Nixon first of
all Nixon wasn't in office yet in Decmeber 1968 and second there is no one
who will back up his claim in fact the boarders with Cambodia were well
amrked so no one would accidentally cross the borders.
2. He recieved his first Purple heart for wounds he claims he received on
Dec 2nd and yet his own Journals written by him indicate that on Dec 1tth he
and his crew started a mission and that they were all a bit coocky because
they had never been shot at yet. how can he have it both ways he was shot
and therefore deserving of the purple heart on Dec 2nd and yet claim that he
and his crew were coocky on Dec 11th because they had never been shot at.
COULD THIS BE YET ANOTHER LIE!
3. He indicated that when the 3 boat was hit mine the other three boats fled
when in fact it was his boat that fled while the other stayed behind to
rescue members from the 3 boat. In fact Rassman fell overboard when Kerry
gunned his boat to get away when the mine went up. yet anoth e lie by Kerry
in fact if Kerry had never returned the crews from the other boats would
have picked Rassman up as they were pivking other sailors up.

Learn to read silly.
The swifters claim to have written a work of non-fiction. On them is the
burden of providing facts.
It's been proven that
1) They are lying
2) They have a motive to lie
Here are a
couple

So he got a date wrong recalling something that happened dozens of years
before. So what? He's not telling that story on the campaign trail, he was
talking on the Senate Floor.
2. He recieved his first Purple heart for wounds he claims he received on
Dec 2nd
OMIGOD - he missed another date by a couple of weeks. So what?
To you, Kerry gets a date wrong and you call that a lie. Yet when the
swifters make claims that are contradicted by
1) Contemporaneous witnesses and writings from the events
2) THE OFFICIAL RECORD
you don't see the lie.
You look pretty silly right now :-)

Yes, I have. Let's talk about pages 80-85. I believe I have some degree of
credibility to discuss that. Let me just make a quick comment, and then we
can go from there.
Not any lies that I can see (one exception, but that's borderline) but the
truth is largely absent.

When you have a guy like Oneil who only goal is to destroy a person, how can
you know what is credible? I think you would be better to look someplace else
to learn Kerry veracity and character. The guy did put his ***** in harms way.
It is amazing that he republicans with a guy with so much baggage would make
such stupid atttacks.

I don't have to read that crap to figure out what is going on. More so
when the people that wrote it admit that they have vo evidence for the
their claims and the people that were there all say that said claims
are plain *****.
