Swift hires American citizens, legal residents to replace illegal workers
Chad Groening OneNewsNow.comMay 17, 2007
A grassroots border security organization is praising Swift & Company
meat packing for its recent announcement that it has hired nearly 1,300
U.S. citizens and legal residents to fill jobs that used to be done by
illegal aliens.
In December 2006, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents
conducted raids on Swift plants in six states, arresting about 1,300
workers. The Greeley, Colorado-based company says the raids cost it an
estimated $50 million; but Swift reports it has now returned to
"standard staffing levels" at all the affected processing facilities
with people who have a legal right to work in the United States.

That sounds like a bargain! If we group 12,000,000 illegals into groups
of 1,300 members, at the cost of 50 million to round up each group, we'd
spend $461 billion dollars give or take a few cents.
I think it's time bush presents to congress another tax cutting package

It says that the raids cost the company $50 million. Obviously they are
bucking for limiting their punishment to that and no jail time. If the
costs are true, that should be enough to get them to follow the law in
future.
Of course there really are jobs that it is difficult or impossible to
fill using only American labour and that means that having access to the
Mexican workforce is reasonable, but those Mexicans need to be
documented and only allowed to work in the jobs that can't be
domestically staffed.

A misdemeanour isn't nothing. And if they did that 1300 times, that
seems like a good throw the book at them reason, don't it? If an
employer is tricked, I don't think it should be a crime though. People
show up with all the documents and they look perfectly legal, although
strangely they don't know any English.
Perhaps the illegals could be detained for six months breaking rocks
before going back to Mexico to try entering again. They could live in
tents in the desert, wait, that might acclimatize them to the capability
for their next push norde.

These employers are not "tricked".
They know damn well who they are
hiring.
Locking up the illegals is expensive.
Lock up one employer like a Swift
executive and you dont have to lock
up 1,300 Mexicans.
If bush,jr and Ashcroft / Gonzales had
enforced existing law in the last six
and a half years this would be a 30
million person problem.
Might have cost us the price of keeping
ten executives in jail.....the message would

few jobs for illegals and we wouldn't
have the problem.

We need to share the fun with the Mexican gov't.
Here's my idea. We take two or three old aircraft carriers out of
mothballs. We put a few thousand, maybe 8 or 10 thousand, illegals on them.
Departure points could be San Diego on the West Coast, New Orleans in the
Gulf and Charleston on the Atlantic. (New Orleans needs some make-work jobs
anyway.) Then we sail those carriers off to Puerto Vallarta and/or Acapulco
on the west, Cancun on the east, and we release all the illegals about a
quarter mile off the beach and see what that does to tourism!
I can't imagine why the Mexican gov't wouldn't want an additional 30,000
tourists per week...!!

If HIRING illegals is a Felony you betcha that would stop it.
A misdemeanour isn't nothing. And if they did that 1300 times, that
seems like a good throw the book at them reason, don't it?
Does to me.
If an
employer is tricked, I don't think it should be a crime though.
If they can prove they were tricked then sure they should get off.
Because you can get sued if you refuse to hire people of a specific race
or ethnicity, so if they were tricked, say by very realistic looking
documents, that's one thing. If they knew what they were doing, they
should be punished.
People
show up with all the documents and they look perfectly legal, although
strangely they don't know any English.
Hahahahaha!!!
Perhaps the illegals could be detained for six months breaking rocks
before going back to Mexico to try entering again. They could live in
tents in the desert, wait, that might acclimatize them to the capability
for their next push norde.
We need to share the fun with the Mexican gov't.
I'm not totally sure that Mexico doesn't have some elements of the
"failed state" going on.
Think about the sharks, the loan sharks.

BS - the only jobs americans won't take are servant jobs and only the
rich hire servants. Who gives an emef whether some billionaire has a
maid. No more beaners in america - legal or illegal.

Swift hires American citizens, legal residents to replace illegal
workers
(snip)
--------------
But Bush and McCain told us americans won't take the jobs!!!
That sounds like a bargain! If we group 12,000,000 illegals into groups
of 1,300 members, at the cost of 50 million to round up each group, we'd
spend $461 billion dollars give or take a few cents.
Aahh, poor capitalists, lets sit you down and give you a biscuit. Sure,
lets not fine Swift or put their board of directors in jail. Naaaa, that
would be a bad thing to do.
Is there any limit to how much you are willing to misrepresent what I
just said in order to attack me personally?
Why are you conservatives so cowardly? You want poor people jailed but put
a rich person even near a jail and we'll hear from you.
I don't see why someone who hires someone should go to jail if they
followed the legally required protocols in hiring workers. If they
didn't and they broke laws which have punishments that include being
locked up, as I said, 1300 breeches seems like about the time to throw
the book at them.
I can remember when
Rush was caught with tons of illegal drugs,
When was Rush "caught with tons of illegal drugs"?
all of a sudden the
conservatives were bunny rabbit like in their belief that Rush should be set
free.
When was Rush put in jail?
Of course is some Mexican kid has a joint, well lock him up and throw
away the key.
Do your comments have any connection with what actually happened?

Did Swift & Co receive any
punishment for providing jobs
to illegals in violation of American
law?
Swift & Co. attracted illegals
here by provioding these jobs.

What does this show? It shows that Bush's line that America's economy
won't function without millions of illegal aliens is *****. That's
the only plausible conclusion when a company - when forced to by a big
raid - really can replace over a thousand illegals with Americans in
the same jobs virtually overnight.

Of course bush is lying. He's taking money from the corporations that
exploit the illegal labor. Most congressmen are doing the same.
