Why shouldn't they? Democrats sometimes still make concessions to the
public interest when voting on legislation that relates to campaign
contributers. Write a check to a Republican and he'll vote to put
petroleum distillates in baby food, if that's what you tell him to do.
If you're a corporation, slip a check under the right door and the
Republicans will let you do whatever the ***** you please and nevermind
the cost, the consequences or the common good. That's why Republican
coffers are constantly jammed. That's also why we're mired down in
Iraq, why millionaire citrus farmers are subsidized with taxpayer
dollars, why the price of sugar and peanuts is artificially high, why
an increasing number of businesses don't have to pay overtime anymore
and why healthcare costs are ridiculously high. I wouldn't be at all
surprised if that's not at least partially why oil prices are so high,
too. If "Pro-business" meant what it sounds like it means it wouldn't
be so bad, but with Republicans, "Pro-business" means "All business
all the time."
