The absurdities of the Iraq war are revealed... |
Governing With All The Keen Skill Of Delta House
DANIEL RUTH

You get a sense that things are deteriorating into "Hail Freedonia"
-like proportions in Iraq when President Bush's administration starts
talking about using Afghanistan as a role model for democratic reform.
Wouldn't that be a bit like looking to Jeffrey Dahmer for home
entertainment advice?
Geez, Tampa City Councilman John Dingfelder wields more political clout
than Hamid Karzai, who rules firmly - with more body armor than Sir
Lancelot, protected by Special Forces, the Sixth Fleet, the Strategic
Air Command, Rambo and The Untouchables - over his front porch.
Isn't it amazing, and sad, that the only consistent voice with any
credibility when it comes to Iraq has been 20-year-old Jessica Lynch,
the former Army private who has resisted efforts by the Pentagon to turn
her into a Sgt. York of the Persian Gulf?
Nearly 400 U.S. body bags later, the White House is only now concluding
that it installed Spanky and Our Gang to run Iraq, led by Ahmad Chalabi,
the Dennis Kozlowski of the Sunni Triangle?
Perhaps this is the inevitable, bloody, costly result of engaging in a
war with less thought given to an exit strategy than Butch and Sundance
pondering their options only after they've been surrounded by the
Bolivian army.
So amid the fretting over an ultra- ultra-top-top-secret CIA report that
was leaked faster than an Elvis sighting in News Of The World, Iraqi
Viceroy Paul Bremer was hastily recalled to Washington for high-level
consultations.
But in consulting with the very people who thought the conquest of Iraq
would be more of a cakewalk than Cassius Clay dispatching Sonny Liston,
Bremer had to feel as if he had been invited to a housewarming party at
Tara.
Actual Reading
The CIA report expressed grave concerns that the growing Iraqi
resistance might embolden the populace to conclude the U.S.-led
coalition might be defeated.
As well, the CIA document suggested efforts at democratic
nation-building were at risk of failure unless significant action
against insurgent elements could be taken immediately.
Dire? Sure. Bleak? Absolutely. Scary? You bet.
But what could be argued as equally unnerving were reports, first
disclosed by The Philadelphia Inquirer, that the reason the CIA memo was
so obviously leaked to the news media was the hope that the information
somehow would manage to penetrate the ``Everything Is Beautiful''
gatekeepers and actually be read by the commander in chief.
After all, while attacks on U.S. troops are averaging three dozen a day,
the president has been running around the country complaining that not
enough attention is being paid to all the swell news coming out of Iraq,
such as the installation of a $27 million Halliburton stop sign in Fallujah.
Good grief, this is like Chauncey Gardner as leader of the free world.
Film Festival
Meanwhile, the administration - in a sort of Andy Hardy from Hell
version of ``Hey, I got an idea, let's put on a war!'' - finds itself
scrambling to speed up the transfer of power in Iraq, even if it means
transferring power to the Sharks and the Jets.
That's a great idea except for the fact that the leaked CIA memo noted
the handpicked crowd making up the Iraqi Governing Council is about as
competent to assume leadership as Yogi Bear taking over the National
Parks Service.
It seems the Iraqi Governing Council is riven by tribal, ethnic,
religious and political differences. In addition, its 25 members often
fail to show up for legislative sessions, preoccupied only with issuing
proclamations and engaging in nepotism.
Sounds like the U.S. Congress, only without the truck bombs.
Entifadh Qanbar, a flack for Chalabi, told The Associated Press that the
characterization of the council as being less effective than the Florida
Legislature was unfair considering members had been ``taking part in
international events.''
You could make an argument that these folks may be more ready for
democracy than we thought. After all, it would seem they clearly grasp
the concept of the political junket at public expense.
And thus, although the Iraqi Governing Council has demonstrated all the
skills of the Delta fraternity in "Animal House," our White House grows
ever more restless to declare democracy and get out.
This is what happens when you "liberate" in haste. Body bags ('transfer
tubes' is the current official military terminology) start to look like
Electoral College votes.

Nope. The 21,000 to 55,000 mentioned were killed by the USA invasion of
Iraq. More are being killed every day. For what? Some ***** like you to

Well, when you consider that between 21,000 and 55,000 people have died
as a result of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and its aftermath,
according to a new report that also warned of rapidly deteriorating
health conditions for those who survived --- you just might notice that
IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11. IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11.
Osama bin Laden and Al-Queda are the culprits in this terrorism. BW is
too stupid to notice that Saddam had nothing to do with it. The PNAC
guys who are now key players in the Bush administration planned this
whole thing years ago.
Killing Iraqis is just adding gasoline to that fire of hatred. The whole
world sees this. Bush is hated around the world.
***** for brains BW defends the continuing LIES from the Bush
administration while the Bush administration continues to murder more
people, including our American soldiers.
She is also a racist bigot against the 1.6 billion Muslims.
She wrote this: "The absurdities of the Democrats' attacks against the
war against Muslim Terrorism"
What can you expect from an obsessive political hack who wants to
promote hatred. BW would do great at a KKK website.

Statements that Mormons are held captive to a cult are nothing new. Nor
are
the Bold and Triumphant statements from biased persons who assume to know
all, and proved so incredible wrong over time.
Those who sought to kill the Prophet Joseph Smith on the assumption the
Religion would Whither and die without the Man that that "held the
followers
captive with this Powerful Personage"
And those who gloated in the aftermath of the Martyrdom.
Aaah yes. Fannie Alger's fanny in the barn is VERY memorable. So is the
castration and thievery and murder in Smith's early church. Please
notice it was 'Smith's church - not Christ's.
Martyrdom? That's interesting. Smith was about to be exposed for lying
about his undeniable polygamy and lascivious behavior that he had hid
from the 'brethren'. The local newspaper Expositor was about to reveal
his corruption. Smith had his thugs destroy it.
In today's terminology - that would be called terrorism.
He was arrested for that criminal act. He was a criminal. The angry mob
that stormed the jail where he was harbored had their own justifiable
grievances. It was wrong for them to kill him. It would have been much
better if Smith had gone to trial and his cons, scams and lies would
have been revealed.
Smith's church was a plague that stole from and conned any community
within which it resided. That's why they got kicked out of everywhere
they went. It WASN'T religious persecution against the 'saints' as the
current LDS Church claims. It was a reaction to organized thuggery.
Smith was not a martyr. He was an ***** con artist that became
idolized for his even sophomoric yet charismatic influence over his
'followers'. His death at the hands of those who represented those who
had suffered deaths at his command - was not a matter of
misunderstanding.
To consider that this ***** was a 'prophet of God' or even a semblance
of a representation of Christ - is an insult to not only humanity, but
to Jesus Christ. And anyone who innocently buys this crap is setting
themselves up for a grand and painful disappointment.
Not only that, most ex-Mormons (even some current Mormons) don't even
believe in God. The effective grand deception is that extensive. I can
understand it from what I've seen.
Hinckley's a gem isn't he? Does this Hinckley represent God? Does this
Hinckley represent Christ? Is he really a 'prophet' seer and revelator?
Has he seen, prophesied or revealed ANYTHING? Heh, heh. Or is he just a
PR corporate figure head?
Keep sending in 10% of your income to perpetuate your collective
culture? Gotta remember that secret handshake to get into heaven, right?

It's much easier to avoid the actual issues of the 'fundy' agenda by nit
picking about when I came to lose respect for you. Dodging the issues of
the obvious statements of the religious right by trying to change the
subject to other stuff doesn't fly.
The religious right speaks for itself. I have reported specific quotes
from them. THAT is the issue. I don't care about AT ALL whether you like
me or not or if *I* did something incorrectly by dates or something.
The fact remains that you are a right wing fundamentalist so-called
Christian. And I have presented numerous quotes from prominent right
wing fundamentalist 'Christians' that express that mentality. Your focus
on me personally has nothing to do with those representative quotes -
which you are *dodging* by focusing on me personally.
And if you think that your radical religious beliefs are somehow going
to be adopted here by anyone, you are dumber than I thought.
