Object: The Fake Turkey, A Perfect Symbol of The Bush pResidency
There is no better symbol of the Bush presidency than what was in the
front pages of all the newspapers of November 28th. That was of him
wearing that army uniform, visiting the troops in Iraq, and offering
them that turkey. Here's the picture:

What the newspapers did not mention is that the turkey was a fake, made
of plastic, filled with air, and it was definitely not edible.

What better symbol of the Bush presidency than this? This is the
absolutely hollow, empty, substance-free and deadly administration of
George Bush. What you see is NOT what you get. The calculating,
merciless, manipulators of the Bush administration would even manipulate
the meals of our own dying GI's.

The newspapers put these words in Bush's mouth, he was asking our
troops, "How about some of this turkey"? But this is what he really
said, when he offered the tray: "Can you guess which one is the real
turkey"?

WASHINGTON -- President Bush's Baghdad turkey was for looking, not for
eating.

In the most widely published image from his Thanksgiving day trip to
Baghdad, the beaming president is wearing an Army workout jacket and
surrounded by soldiers as he cradles a huge platter laden with a
golden-brown turkey.

The bird is so perfect it looks as if it came from a food magazine, with
bunches of grapes and other trimmings completing a Norman Rockwell image
that evokes bounty and security in one of the most dangerous parts of
the world.

But as a small sign of the many ways the White House maximized the
impact of the 2 1/2-hour stop at the Baghdad airport, administration
officials said Wednesday that Bush picked up a decoration, not a serving
plate.
"In the end, through the long ages of our quest for light, it will be
found that truth is still mightier than the sword":
Gen. Douglas MacArthur
