The rest of the article:
Iraq's national security adviser, Mouwafak al-Rubaie, announced al-Saeedi's
arrest on Sunday, saying it had occurred a few days earlier. But Caldwell
said that it was only the permission to announce the arrest that had been
given a few days earlier.
Caldwell called the arrest the most significant since al-Zarqawi was killed
in a U.S. airstrike on June 7.
He added that the man who masterminded the Feb. 22 bombing of a Shiite
shrine in Samarra reported directly to al-Saeedi. That attack, 60 miles
north of Baghdad, inflamed tensions between Shiite and Sunni Muslims and
triggered reprisal attacks for months that have killed hundreds of Iraqis.

announced, a U.S. military spokesman said Wednesday.

Iraq's national security adviser, Mouwafak al-Rubaie, announced
al-Saeedi's arrest on Sunday, saying it had occurred a few days
earlier. But Caldwell said that it was only the permission to announce
the arrest that had been given a few days earlier.
Thanks for verifying the news was held back for political gain.
LOL, if by political you mean, not informing al-Qaida that the location
of some of their highest members was in jeopardy.
yea... like they didn't notice he was missing............
I'm sure if you were in hiding, you would post your whereabouts on the net
so everyone could keep track of your every movement, just not sure Al-Qaida
is in keeping with your sound advice.
Nothing so technical needed. Runners, couriers, etc.

If I act like a dumb-***** will I see some obscure political motivation for
delaying the announcement?

Caldwell called the arrest the most significant since al-Zarqawi was
killed
in a U.S. airstrike on June 7.

Well, judging by how much killing al-Zarqawi set them back, let alone
capturing Saddam, then after this capture, I'd say they were in
their........ LAST THROES!!! It's only gonna be a few more decades,
folks. Maybe a couple of centuries at most. Or maybe a bit more.
