Three Dead After Bluffton, SC Shooting
Three people killed at a Lowcountry construction site.
The shootings happened just before 3:30 Thursday afternoon on US
Highway 278 in Bluffton.
That's where workers are building a Best Buy store.
In a few months, thousands of people will shop at the completed store,
but on this Thursday afternoon it's law enforcement who are all over
the grounds.
"There was a dispute between two sub-contractors that were doing work
on the interior of this building," says Sheriff PJ Tanner.
He tells us the painting sub-contractor and electrical sub-contractor
were arguing, then the general contractor stepped in – trying to break
it up.
"One of the victims who will later be identified had a gun and shot a
sub-contractor and the general contractor and then retreated to the
rear of the building and took his own life," says Sheriff Tanner.
Witnesses tell us other workers ran from the building after the
shootings.
Sheriff Tanner says deputies interviewed about 40 people to find out
what happened.
More than 80 workers were on site during the shootings.
The Beaufort County coroner will release the names of those killed
sometime Friday after their families are notified.
Sheriff Tanner says only one of the men was from Beaufort County and
isn't sure about the other two.
