Usenet = blackhole of Internet resources? Much more news serversgetting your posts than readers? |
Seriously, how many people -- do you think -- read your posts? I have
been posting for many years, and based on the amount of replies I get,
my feeling is that there are much more news servers retaining your posts
than there are usenetizens reading them. Meaning Usenet is a mega waste
of Internet resources.

I just use it for practice actually. Not so concerned about readership.
Also, there can be a great deal of positive stuff come out of a good
exchange mainly it helps develop your own thought just by typing it out.
A whole lot of info is found on USENET that does not appear on the
Web. I have found some tech/computer information that I couldn't not find
Web'ing.
It is also a good place for info leads.. sometimes even what seems 'wacky'
at the time may turn out to be not so wacky after all.
For instance, for a long time there was a guy going on about and on about
mind control and weapons being developed by .gov to destabilize the
thought process; and, according to him, convicts were being used as
test subjects. Well this isn't so "wacky" any more.
Lastly USENET reminds me of the old days before the web invasion when it
was more like a huge BBS. ASCII is great. ASCII is good. Long live ASCII.

Usenet gives us a place to unload our burdens, pass our gass, and
generally be obnoxious. And we can fight back at the nasty people. On
regular net message boards, this can't be done, as nasty people like
to turn you in to the net powers-that-be. Usenet is a level playing
ground.
