A Baker's Dozen
Taxes (and some lies to the Senate) will cost Italia Federici dearly,
as was clear from her plea hearing in D.C. federal court this morning.

She faces a guidelines range of 10 to 16 months behind bars, though
her cooperation with the Justice Department could lead to a much lower
sentence.
During the hearing before Judge Ellen Huvelle, Federici answered
questions but said nothing else and issued no new statement.
But she's not the only member of the Council of Republicans for
Environmental Advocacy in trouble for tax fraud.
Her vice president, Jared Carpenter, represented by G. Allen Dale, is
expected to plead guilty to tax evasion charges in July, lawyers said.
He makes the 13th individual charged in connection with the activities
of the now-convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
