W Exploits The 9/11 Dead, Censors the Truth & Lies at The Same Time |
EXPLOITING THE DEAD
The Repugs are starting out their campaign with hundreds of millions of
dollars at the disposal of their "fearless" leader, and their first
campaign ads are exploiting the dead bodies of the victims of 9/11. But
last year, as we were headed to war, their leader "clamped down" on the
media by banning reporters from photographing the flag-draped caskets of
soldiers killed in combat. He said that this policy was enforced to
"spare the feelings of military families."
But what about the feelings of the families of those killed on 9/11?
Bush does not care about them. And he doesn't care about cooperating
with the 9/11 commission either. The attacks on 9/11 mean nothing to
Bush, except as a political tool for him to get elected on.
CENSORING THE TRUTH
At the same time that the Republicans who have hundreds of millions of
dollars in their coffers are flooding our TV airwaves with these very
disrespectful, hypocritical, tasteless and nepharious TV ads that
exploit the victims of 9/11, the Republicans are also at the same time
threatening to yank the FCC licenses away from TV stations that play the
ads of a liberal advocacy group that has been critical of Bush's
policies.
This is the same liberal advocacy group that was not allowed to play a
TV ad called "Child's Play" on CBS, an ad that was critical of Bush's
handling of the economy.
HYPOCRICY & LYING TO AMERICA
In his very first television ads of the 2004 campaign, Bush has
blanketed the nation's airwaves with images of firefighters carrying a
flag-draped body from the 9/11 wreckage of Ground Zero
This is obvious hypocrisy, Bush is preventing Americans from receiving
any sort of reminder of the toll of his war in Iraq, while at the very
same time Bush exploits an image of a dead body at Ground Zero for his
own selfish political gain. This politicizing of 9/11 by Bush, as well
as the obvious hypocricy of it all, has understandably caused an outrage
among many of the 9/11 victims' families.
Chris Burke, whose brother Tom died in the 9/11 attacks, said, "Using my
dead friends and my dead brother for political expediency is dead wrong.
It's wrong, it's bad taste and an insult to the 3,000 people who died on
Sept. 11."
The president's actions expose his total lack of any credibility,
because he previously promised not to exploit the 9/11 attacks.
Speaking of 9/11 in January 2003, President Bush told the Associated
Press that he had "no ambition whatsoever to use this as a political
issue."

REPUBLICANS ASK TV STATIONS TO PULL ADS BY LIBERAL GROUP
SHARON THEIMER, Associated Press Writer
Friday, March 5, 2004
The Republican National Committee on Friday asked about 250 television
stations to pull a liberal group's ads critical of President Bush.
The RNC sent the stations a letter Friday suggesting the outlets may be
complicit in breaking campaign finance laws if they air the MoveOn.org
Voter Fund ads. It asked them to decline to broadcast the ads.
The RNC argues that the group, financed by so-called "soft money," is
spending it on ads to influence a federal election. The campaign finance
law broadly bars the use of such corporate, union and unlimited
donations to influence federal elections.
MoveOn began airing ads Thursday critical of Bush's policies. MoveOn
founder Wes Boyd said the ads are legal, and added that the group isn't
concerned by the RNC's letter. The ads were financed with unlimited
donations from individuals -- one form of soft money.
The ads were originally to air in 17 presidential battleground states
over five days at a cost of $1.9 million. Boyd said the group decided
Friday to spend $1 million more to run an ad criticizing Bush's economic
policies for an additional week in several states.
In the letter, RNC chief counsel Jill Holtzman Vogel wrote, "As a
broadcaster licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, you have
a responsibility to the viewing public and to your licensing agency to
refrain from complicity in any illegal activity, specifically in this
case, violations of our nation's federal election laws."
Federal Election Commission spokesman Bob Biersack said the FEC could
only determine whether there was anything amiss in the MoveOn ad buy by
reviewing the details, something it typically would do if a complaint
was filed against the group.
