WAHT IRAQI PEOPLE REALLY WANT |
WHAT IRAQI PEOPLE REALLY WANT

My information comes from soldiers fighting in Iraq, and some of
their Iraqi counterparts:
The main thing the Iraqi people want is to survive. The second
main hope they want is to be secure in their homes and jobs. When
asked whether the Iraqi people preferred Saddam to the coalition
forces and the new Iraqi Government, the predominant answer is
they "would rather be governed by a dictator and be safe than by
a democratic government and be afraid for their lives."
Ouch! Are the terrorists winning?
It respect to terror, so far, the terrorists have certainly
managed to instill fear and terror into the minds of the Iraqi
people as a whole. The terrorists have managed to convince the
Iraqi people not to help the coalition forces or the new Iraqi
government - for fear of their lives and their family's lives.
But recently, it seems that the proverbial worm is turning . . .
albeit slowly.
Where the goons made their first and most important mistake was
by indiscriminately butchering innocent Iraqi people, holding
Iraqi families hostage, and other typical war crimes the goons
perpetrate on a regular basis against the Iraqi people. What
those war crimes against the Iraqi people have created is
hundreds of thousands of Iraqis that want revenge against the
goons, or at least want closure for the deaths of their family
members or friends. Most Iraqi men now recognize and admit the
goons are murdering more Iraqis than the coalition forces ever
killed, and these Iraqi men realize the only way to stop the
wanton slaughter of Iraqis is to join the new Government's
National Guard or Police forces. For each innocent Iraqi civilian
the goons manage to murder or take hostage, they create about a
thousand Iraqi enemies.
The second big mistake the goons have made in Iraqi is allowing
the Iraqi people to know that Iran is supporting and arming them.
The only thing Iraqi men hate worse than an Iranian is a Cobra -
and the Iranians are running a close second to the Cobra.
Democracy?
The Iraqi people are, as a whole, not democratic zealots. They
really do not know who is going to prevail in respect to
controlling their country, and consequently, their lives. So they
try to stay neutral, or at least, perform for the terrorists when
the terrorists control their cities and lives. Which means (1)
they dare not vote (2) they dare not speak out against any
Ayatollah, and (3) they had better not want Democracy. Yet
democracy is like a virus, it needs leaders to spread it, or it
needs an event, like a national election to help a fledgling
democracy catch hold of the people. Neither will happen if the
Iraqi people are not secure.
I seriously doubt if a true democracy can exist in Iraq as long
as the terrorists control parts of that nation, and thereby,
force the Iraqi population to do their bidding, whether it is
espionage or sabotage. Many Iraqi men have been forced to perform
tasks for the terrorists simply because the terrorists were
holding their families hostage.
As long as the terrorists can muster such control and power over
the Iraqi people, there will be no peace nor security for the
Iraqi people, and consequently, there will never be any real
democracy - vote or no vote.
What Iraq Needs
The provisional Iraqi government must declare unconditional
Martial Law, and maintain that martial law and curfews for at
least a year before any election will mean anything to the Iraqi
people or to the rest of the Middle East. Without security from
terrorism, there can be no real democratic government, as a
democracy is fundamentally based upon trust, and the will of the
people to want to govern themselves. All those lofty ideals mean
little to a man or woman that has a gun pointed to the back of
their heads, or worse, to the back of their children's heads.
Without security the Iraqi people cannot survive, and survival is
much more important to the Iraqi people than some new form of
Government they have never been allowed to read about or
completely understand in their entire lives.
To put it as succinctly as I can: The Iraqi people must have
security and jobs before they will ever truly embrace democracy -
no matter how hard we try to sell it to the world, without
security and jobs, there will never be a lasting democratic
government in Iraq. Dictators can force their totalitarian form
of Government on the people at the point of a gun, but a
Democracy requires free will, and that free will must be a secure
free will or the will can never be truly free.
The Coalition forces and the Iraqi National Guard must continue
their offensive and clean out the nests of the terrorists, and
garrison each city in such a manner as to stop the goons from
returning to the various Iraqi communities in force. (There
always will be criminals in every nation and crime itself can
never be completely stamped out - especially in a democratic
nation - the USA experiences about 25000 unsolved murders every
year as just one example). But *organized and effective*
terrorism cannot coexist with a fledgling democracy - that is
like trying to mix oil and water - it can never happen -
especially in the Middle East.

Brilliant analysis! I agree 100%, but the question foremost in the minds of
Iraqis is who are the "goons" here. Because we have not been as respectful
of their lives, their culture, and their physical well-being as we could
have been.............more and more of them see us as the "goons".
It only takes a few of those newly created "goons" who want revenge to
deliver a suitcase nuke, gifted to them perhaps by any one of eighteen known
countries, some of which have been treated disrespectfully by
Bush...............to do more harm than any of us can imagine.
I do not fear "terrorists" but I do fear "goons" in our own country who
abandon the ways of a civilized nation out of a COWARDLY fear of the enemy
that causes them to war against an non-threatening enemy because they have
more and better targets than against the real enemy whom our president has
said, "I don't worry much about him."
If we have not been "indiscriminately butchering innocent Iraqi people" then
we will win this war for the minds of the enemy.....but if we
have...........then we can expect the insurgency to grow. Only the Iraqi
people know the answer to that question. What we tell each other is less
important than the actual number of Iraqi that die by our hand and are never
counted....except by them.
