You are not going to see the following news reports on CNN and
certainly not on FOX, ohhh nooo. Remember the war on Afghanistan -
hear any news about it lately? We were told it was primarily about
removing the Taliban from power because they were harbouring Al Quaeda
terrorists. Right? Wrong!
For the neo-con led US government, it was about:
(i) building the last phase of the oil pipeline thru Afghanistan
coming from the Caspian Sea oil regions of Turkmenistan all the way to
the Pakistan coast from where it is shipped to "friendly" countries.

(ii) re-starting opium production in Afghanistan which had been
gradually halted by the fundamental-Islamic Taliban [2]. This is now
on the rise and with Afghanistan controlling up to 75% of the world's
heroin production [3] and "the West" consuming about 90% of it,
control Afghan heroin - the most demanded street drug in history - and
you're laundering your way all the way to the bank; US banks that is.
(iii) and a distant third, removing Al-Quaeda and the Taliban, if
possible, and only where it limits their ability to perform (i) & (ii)
The pipeline is now built & protected by US troops and oil is flowing,
Afghanistan is back to its status as the major heroin producer in the
world and will contribute about $200billion in laundered drug money to
the US economy alone in 2003 (part of an overall estimated drugs
contribution of $1.3trillion annually). And the Taliban - remember
them? - they are still in control and gaining ground every day in
Afghanistan. [4]
And yeah, what about Hamid Karzai - the former Unocal oil consultant
[5] - now installed as prime minister of the "Afghan government" by
the US - he dare not step out of the US-protected Afghan capital,
Kabul, b'cos that's the only place he governs. Everywhere else is
either controlled by Taliban warlords or being fought over for
control.
This is the hidden face of US liberation in Afghanistan. Iraq's
"liberation" is now on the way. Go figure!!!

The defeat of the Taliban would result in a surge in opium production,
which has been virtually halted in Afghanistan by the Kabul regime
over the last year, United Nations officials have warned.
A new UN survey reveals that the Taliban have completed one of the
quickest and most successful drug elimination programmes in history.
The area of land given over to growing opium poppies in 2001 fell by
91 per cent compared with the year before, according to the UN Drug
Control Programme's (UNDCP) annual survey of Afghanistan. Production
of fresh opium, the raw material for heroin, went down by an
unprecedented 94 per cent, from 3,276 tonnes to 185 tonnes.
Almost all Afghan opium this year came out of territories controlled
by America's ally in the assault on Afghanistan, the Northern
Alliance.

The United Nations released a survey today showing that opium
production is on the rise this year in Afghanistan, by far the world's
biggest producer of the drug.

The Taliban have taken control of the Mezana district in the Kabul
province in a bloody firefight and have established their government.

Sixteen districts are now under complete Taliban control, which has
resulted in the UN, the Red Cross and other relief agencies
terminating their operations inside the country. The US is sending
another 1000 troops to the area in an effort to quell the uprising
however it is unlikely this effort will have any notable effect as the
Taliban have gained considerable momentum, arms and recruits and enjoy
widespread local support.

We did, as a matter of fact. FOX reported that the fat socialist *****
Hillary recently traveled there. Apparently it is now a safe place to
travel to.
Or maybe since FOX reported it, the story's not true, and the fat socialist
