Here you go folks. If you're not disgusted yet this ought to do it for
you.
This is impeachment material. Not that it will ever get there it since
the people in charge can make anytrhing they want go away. This is
proof of the abominable practices of the republigoons. This is proof
that the torture in Abu Graib was approved at the highest levels of
the Bush administration. This is proof of the terrible slide towards
facsism under the GOP.
How can a country that claims to be the beacon of freedom and
democracy establish a policy of torturing detainees?
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Defense Department last year approved
interrogation techniques for use at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba
that include forcing inmates to strip naked and subjecting them to
loud music, bright lights and sleep deprivation, the Washington Post
reported on Saturday.
The techniques were approved in April 2003 and require approval from
senior Pentagon (news - web sites) officials and in some cases Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the paper reported on its Web site, citing
unnamed defense officials[... ]

An honest question....Just trying to figure out the mindset of a typical

Deny what? If we can't use techniques used by the police on NYPD Blue
when dealing with terrorists, what would you suggest?

I'd like to know what you are babbling about. Is ever possible way to
interrogate prisoners now torture?

Really? I've read the Constitution several times and don't ever remember
seeing the term "prisoner of war". Stop spouting the Constitution if you
don't know what it says. What happened in that Iraqi prison is
deplorable but hardly covered by the Constitution. According to the
Geneva Conventions they don't even deserve the protection afforded bona
fide prisoners of war. This country could execute them with out trial
if so disposed as it could the Gitmo "detainees". Get your facts straight.

You too. The Geneva Accords explicitly say that non-regular fighters can
spontaneously take up arms in a region. The Guantanamo Bay people were never
given due process either since the Geneva Accords say if there is any
question as to the status of a prisoner, a tribunal is held to determine
that status. Never done.

They can but they are supposed to show in some way that they are
fighters and not civilians. This hiding in religious shrines and using
civilians as human shields is not allowed by legal regular or irregular
combatants.

The Guantanamo Bay people were never
given due process either since the Geneva Accords say if there is any

How would we go about doing this?

If they win, subsequent generations call them "freedom fighters." Check the

Regardless, not all Iraqi attacks were on civilians, or civilian targets.

How is approval of sleep deprivation at Guantanamo evidence of
approval of sexual humiliation at Abu Gharib?

What torture?

Last time I checked, Guantanamo Bay is quite a distance from Iraq.

That's pretty mild stuff, all things considered. It's
also within the Geneva guidelines. It's war, not
kindergarten.
Oh, DO remember that a lot of these prisoners are

bus full of children - or already HAD.

What was taking shape in Iraq went FAR beyond the measures
approved by the pentagon and Rumsfeld. It was a decent into
the same kind of mentality exhibited by Saddams wardens.
The local commanders just said "give 'em hell" but then
turned their backs so they wouldn't see what KIND of hell
was being unleashed. Given "licence to kill" so to speak,
unlimited power, the guards soon began acting out their
worst impulses.

One thing that should always be remem, bered is that when it comes
to our attention that some American soldiers engaged in abuse of
prisoners put under their charge, they are prosecuted.
How many people did Saddam Hussein's Baathist regime prosecute for
torturing prisoners?

Pah. If anyone had tortured prisoners after being told not to, they would
have been tortured themselves.

How are methods that are standard procedure, such as loud music, defined
