lobbyists: "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We
couldn't do it, but God did."

Baker claims misquote on N.O. housing loss 09/10/05
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Richard Baker, R-Baton Rouge, accused a New York
newspaper Friday of misquoting him about the destruction of low-income
housing in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina.
The Wall Street Journal wrote that Baker was overheard telling lobbyists:
"We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it,
but God did."
Baker, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, said in a
statement that he was taken aback and perturbed by the comment, which he
said was wrongly attributed to him.
