Weapons That Weren't There. 1064 American troops are dead in Iraq |

THE NEW REPORT from the Iraq Survey Group has confirmed beyond any
reasonable doubt what most people have assumed for the past year:
At the time of the 2003 U.S. invasion, Iraq did not possess weapons of
mass destruction, and most of its programs to produce them were
dormant.
In more than a year of investigation, the survey group found "no
evidence to suggest concerted efforts to restart" the Iraqi nuclear
weapons program that had been halted in 1991;
there were "no credible indications that Baghdad resumed production of
chemical munitions" after 1991;
and there was "no direct evidence that Iraq, after 1996, had plans for
a new BW [biological weapons] program."

Dormant programs are important. In criminal court a lawyer must prove
motive and opportunity. Idle programs were scientist are employed but
not currently working gives opportunity. The motives are well known.
There was opposition to Saddam in Iraq and his previous motives had been
to use chemical weapons against his own people. The motive was there and
the opportunity was there. This would go a long way in a court of law
toward proving guilt. Compound that with constant refusals for
inspections and the finding of delivery systems for chemical weapons and
I think at that point in time you have a case that could have convicted
Saddam of breaking the rules of the sanctions in an international court
of law.
All indicators pointed to WMD at the time. Why did this inspector not
publish the results in 2003? Simply because he had not found these
results yet.

Why was there a rush to war without actual proof.

Not anymore.
Bush and Cheney both, finally, admitted they lied.

The fascist regime lied and has slaughtered some 30,000 innocent people and
also gotten over 1,000 Americans killed, all so the fascist regime can
secure Iraq's oil without having to pay a fair price for it -- not that
Saddam was willing to sell oil to the United States.

Honest to God, that's what someone in the Bush administration called it
when the WMD were obviously not going to be found.
They quickly dropped it as soon as the initials was pointed out to them.
Just like when Bush called it a crusade.

Freedom isn't free, not for anyone.
You obviously were living under a rock in early 2003. The US convinced
Britain and Spain and Australia to send troops to Iraq NOT because
Saddam was a bad leader but because he had them convinced Iraq was or
would very soon be capable of attacking their soil with missiles -
remember...the 45 minute window. A claim that was laughable at the time.
If the reason was to rid the world of a dictator, then there are a few
other nations that were far far worse. What's bush gonna do if he's
re-elected....start invading every country where he doesn't agree with
its government?????
Yup, the economy will not be what he wants to build his legacy on. He
wants to be remembered for the forceful spread of "Freedom" neo-con
style. If he is re-elected the 'baby boom' generation will find out
the bankruptcy of their selfish ideas. Whoever wins in November, the
future looks bleak for the majority of us. The econo boom of the last
4 years has benefited the upper classes and the middle and lower
classes will pay the piper in either scenario. Me thinks the Patriot
act is more to stymie the unrest of bad economic backlash than
terrorism. Although terrorism might flourish here among the
disenfranchised. In any event harder times than the depression of 65
years ago are ahead, in a society which no longer has the social
cohesion of those historic days. It will hopefully rid the Nation of
it's colossal ego among the nations of the world.

THE NEW REPORT from the Iraq Survey Group has confirmed beyond any
reasonable doubt what most people have assumed for the past year:
At the time of the 2003 U.S. invasion, Iraq did not possess weapons of
mass destruction, and most of its programs to produce them were
dormant.
In more than a year of investigation, the survey group found "no
evidence to suggest concerted efforts to restart" the Iraqi nuclear
weapons program that had been halted in 1991;
there were "no credible indications that Baghdad resumed production of
chemical munitions" after 1991;
and there was "no direct evidence that Iraq, after 1996, had plans for
a new BW [biological weapons] program."

The UN was right, that is Blix and company.
The neo-cons can't even pull of a decent scam, let alone manage the
economy. 4 tax cuts in 4 years, record cheap liquidity pumped in the
economy and still the market is flatlining at home.
Most analyst predict a huge down turn in the economy by next year as
there is no more money to prime the pump. This engine wont run period.
I'm not envious of the next administration, Republican or Democrat,
the carrousel is about to come to a dead stop.
