U.S. soldier dies in Iraq after dump truck attack
BAGHDAD, May 5 (Reuters) -
A U.S. soldier died south of Baghdad on Wednesday after his Humvee was
rammed by a dump truck at the checkpoint he was manning, the U.S.
military said.
It said in a statement the soldier of the 1st Armored Division died of
injuries in what it described as an attack by the dump truck as it
tried to burst through the checkpoint.
It did not say what happened to the truck or its driver.

Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz was asked about the toll at a
hearing of a House appropriations subcommittee.
"It’s approximately 500, of which -- I can get the exact numbers --
approximately 350 are combat deaths," he responded.
"He misspoke," spokesman Charley Cooper said later.
"That’s all."
