We're winning, says Bush, as three more soldiers die

US President George Bush will make his highest profile re-election
pitch yet on Tuesday with his annual State of the Union speech, in
which aides say he plans to defend the war in Iraq unapologetically.
He will also talk "at length" about the Middle East and Afghanistan
and assure Americans jittery after holiday alerts that their
Government is winning the global war on terrorism, a senior
Administration official said yesterday.
Defence of US involvement in Iraq was made even harder after three US
soldiers and two Iraqi civil defence troopers were killed in Iraq
yesterday when a roadside bomb wrecked their Bradley armoured vehicle.
The blast happened west of Taji, about 30 kilometres north of Baghdad,
sources in the US 4th Infantry Division were quoted as saying.
The vehicle's gunner and commander escaped with injuries while the
four people in the back and the driver were killed.
The deaths have increased the toll of American troops, who have died
in Iraq, to 499 since Mr Bush ordered the invasion of the country on
March 20.
Including non-combat deaths, the total US casualty toll stood at 496
before yesterday's reported attack.
In his address, Mr Bush will tell voters that "the path we are on is
the right path", the official told reporters.

hatred of the Iraqi people and all those that have
watched our role as bullies in their country.

I'm afraid you are all along for the ride.
In a democratic system of government the people are responsible for the
decisions made by the leaders they elect.
And lets not quibble over Bush not being elected. We all know he wasn't,
but the numbers were close enough to villify the near 50% of the american
public who did vote for him.
So the blame remains.
