What Did AWOL Bush Know and When Did He Know It? |
You've got one question on your plate, Scott McClellan:
When did the President first learn of Karl Rove's involvement in this case?
As of this morning, Day 4 of the saga, this is where the President stands:
President Bush parried questions about Karl Rove [yesterday], insisting that he
will not comment about his trusted adviser until the conclusion of an
investigation into the unmasking of a C.I.A. operative. "I have instructed
every member of my staff to fully cooperate in this investigation," Mr. Bush
said, as Democrats continued to press their attack. "I also will not prejudge
the investigation based on media reports." The president added, "I will be more
than happy to comment further once the investigation is completed."
This contrasts with Bush's prior statement:
Q: Given recent developments in the CIA leak case, particularly Vice President
[*****] Cheney's discussions with the investigators, do you still stand by what
you said several months ago, a suggestion that it might be difficult to
identify anybody who leaked the agent's name. . . and, do you stand by your
pledge to fire anyone found to have done so?
BUSH: Yes. And that's up to the U.S. attorney to find the facts.
What did the President know and when did he know it? That's the crucial
question. Has AWOL Bush Obstructed Justice?
