Dear Folks,
This morning I came up with the idea of changing the lyrics of Peter
Gabriel's haunting song "Biko" to make a song about war casualties.
(Stephen Bantu Biko (December 18, 1946 - September 12, 1977) was a
noted nonviolent anti-apartheid activist in South Africa in the 1960s.
For more, see <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biko>)
According to the death toll of US soldiers who have died since the US
invasion of Iraq is now 1999. See http://icasualties.org/oif/ for more
info.
I am still think that the song could be improved (feel free to change
it), particularly the phrase "Past 2000, oh no, Past 2000" because that
is just the officially recognized casualties of US soldiers who died in
Iraq and does not include the Iraqi civilians, Afghan civilians and the
US soldiers who died in Afghanistan.
The original lyrics for "Biko" are at

When you ask around here
you may hear them say life is fine
Seems like business as usual
but I see war's death toll climb.
Past 2000, oh no, Past 2000
Past 2000, oh no, Past 2000
Can you see them?, Can you see them?
Too many dead, Too many dead.
Sometimes awake in bed at night
I can only think of them.
The widows and orphans
of Iraqi and US dead.
Past 2000, oh no, Past 2000
Past 2000, oh no, Past 2000
Can you see them?, Can you see them?
Too many dead, Too many dead.
And the eyes of the world are
watching now, watching now
