Gun-Owners are not gun-nutters. The only ones that go nuts over the
sight, sound, or even the mention of the word gun is the liberal,
anti-gun, anti-freedom, anti-constitution crowd like the pseudo-academic

This is America, we don't allow government to set limits on private

In this age of terrorism, because law enforcement did not know where the
perpetrator was, "or how many other shooters there might be," they had
NO right to make any assumptions based on any hearsay evidence, as to
whether it was merely a domestic shooting with no chance of other
possible shooting incidences on the campus. Remember, there had been
recent bomb threats, indicating a terrorist mentality!
Police and (Special Weapons And Tactics) SWAT teams should have been
distributed at strategic locations around the campus. If he could not
have entered the buildings there would have been NO Confined targets for
the shooter. Students & anyone should be instructed to run as fast as
the can at a 90-degree angle to the pistol armed gunman, as unless he
had a lot of experience shooting at moving target a lethal hit would
have been very unlikely!
Additionally, in short order there would have been will armed riflemen
that could have pulled down on the shooter & taken him out!
They allowed the terrorist to get in control of that situation & the
environment, which should NOT have happened!
Once a shot had been fired outdoors the students in that area would have
run for cover.
Additionally, "if need be," anyone in or near their car should blow the
horn to signal law enforcement.
All law enforcement should be armed with the best possible rifle type
weaponry & with instant communication capabilities with each other
Had they prepared properly & instructed students properly beforehand,
carried out a fast acting procedure, there may have only been other
students wounded with no fatal hits. You must act immediately, the worst
thing you can do is freeze providing the gunman with a stationary
target. There are too many factors that will cause the shooter to miss a
fast moving target, that I will not list here.
If the Class Rooms were big enough & Not overcrowded with students, and
the students observed he was using a pistol, they should all have been
instructed to shout to everyone jump move quickly if they move quickly
like a boxer, it's a rare gunmen could react fast enough to get lethal
hits. Do not NOT stand whenever a gun is pointed at you when the gunmen
has begin to shoot!
They will normally shoot behind the quick moving object. This also may
have frustrated the shooter and he would have moved on to the next class
room. A 9mm pistol would probably shoot through a desk & could do
terminal damage.
The gunman was allowed to set the stage on his terms, that must never
ever be allowed from here forward!
The students and Professors need as many tools as possible to fend off a
gunman or several gunmen.
All the classrooms could be equipped with Tear Gas canisters, they could
open all the windows, and throw the canisters into the student cleared
hallway(s).
A stun gun as well a mace could be effective if the gunmen force a
barricaded door slightly open. Break the fire alarm to fag law enforce
where the gunmen are. Windows could be opened and a signal given to law
enforcement when to shoot tear gas into the class room, if necessary.
You can not shoot when you can't keep your eyes open.
You must have ways & means to fend the shooter(s) off until law
enforcement can get to him & take him out! There is more, those are
starters.

The first mistake was the the campus police ignored warning signs.
His teachers knew he was a threat. His fellow English students
were so afraid of him they refused to come to class. His roomates
told authorities he had threatened suicide. He stalked at least
three women, some of whom complained to authorities. He had a
history of mental illness.
This young man was clearly a threat to himself and others. Others
knew it. But the owner of the gun shop didn't know. He had no way
to know because the system of background checks DOES NOT WORK unless
somebody puts data in the database. None of the above data went into
the database, because it's a reactive system. Now that he's killed
himself, and others, they can put his name in the database. A lot of
good that will do. The legislators and law enforcement agencies of
Virginia, starting with the campus police at Virginia Tech have some
explaining to do, and it starts long before anybody died.

They did the same thing back in 1999 and promised THEY WOULD
make it an issue in the 2000 Presidential Election and as we all remember
it ended up losing the election for the gun control crowd!

The Texas lawmakers say gun control efforts have hurt Democrats, including
former Vice President Al Gore.
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.politics.clinton/browse_thread/thread/6945850d6b84ddcc/7a5a01ad1195ec94?lnk=st&q=gun+control+cost+al+gore+the+elections&rnum=1#7a5a01ad1195ec94
"If the Democrats and the Gore campaign had not been so strident in
opposition to gun rights . . . there's absolutely no doubt that Vice
President Gore would be president," Sandlin said. "It cost him a tremendous
amount of support across the South."
Sandlin said that passing any gun control bill will be difficult, especially
in the House.
In the last Congress, with the Clinton White House clamoring for gun
control, a bill never made it out of a conference committee.
The measure started out strong in 1999, when gun control took the spotlight
in Congress after the shooting tragedy at Columbine High School in
Littleton, Colo.
A month after the shooting, the Senate stunned the powerful gun lobby and
voted for a juvenile justice bill that included provisions such as
increasing background checks at gun shows.
But the measure never made it through the House, and efforts to incorporate
it into a joint House-Senate juvenile justice bill failed.
With President Bush in the White House, chances for a gun control bill could
be even more bleak.
As governor of Texas, Bush generally sided with the National Rifle
Association, signing bills that allow people to carry concealed weapons and
prevent municipalities from suing gun makers.
But supporters of gun control say that the issue has momentum because of
increasing public support.
"The gun issue works in different places in different ways," said Joe
Sudbay, public policy director for the Violence Policy Center, a gun control
group based in Washington.
Women across the country strongly support gun control, as do urban and
suburban voters, he said.
Sudbay disputes that supporting gun control cost Gore the White House.
The swing states of Pennsylvania and Michigan voted for Gore despite a
strong anti-Gore campaign there by the NRA, he said.
Some conservative and moderate Democrats, including Hall, say they are
willing to listen to ideas about further regulation of gun shows and trigger
lock requirements.
"I understand that handguns are a problem. People get killed with them.
Children get killed with them. And I think we ought to continue to pursue
something on it," Hall said.
But Hall also said he would have a hard time voting for "anything that
violates or dents the Second Amendment" because the ultimate goal of gun
control proponents is to outlaw possession, as the nation's capital has
done.
"I'm here in Washington, D.C. -- probably the most dangerous city in the
northeastern part of the country after darkness falls -- with a painted
glass between me and the outside world . . . and I can't have a gun in my
home. Give me a break," he said.
Turner said he hopes his party will focus on other matters. "The Democrats
desperately need to unite behind issues that have a broad base of support
within our caucus," he said. "There's a large number of Democrats who are
strong supporters of the Second Amendment."

I REMEMBER IT!
For the last 20 years I have watched Congress and this issue INTENTLY.
Ask yourself what legislation did the Democrats pass after Columbine?
