Air America Radio? They have suffered some financial setbacks but
have been adopting the traditional approach to the business: soliciting
deals with station groups to carry shows in exchange for shared
advertising revenue. Their lease is up in August and WLIB will be
taking their place with stronger financial backing.

We'll see in 6 weeks. WLIB ownership is changing but the new owner is
at least as comitted to progressive radio as the current owners. The
idea that AAR might disappear from WLIB is from Malloney, and he's
never been right about AAR, yet.
I expect to be listening to AAR on WLIB in September.

There are ways in which America, like every country, has prospered
and succeeded. There are ways in which America has failed. The country
is constantly changing and evolving. Failure is bound to happen for
millions of reasons, as is success in some areas.

Replaced by your giddy goosestepping fascism. Liberals don't hate, so
we don't need minute by minute reinforcement to maintain the level of
hate you fascists so carefully cultivate. We rely on logic to recognize
the anti-social cost of your behaviors.
Again I ask you, turdwater:
Did you vote for the presidential candidate who said, after the WTC
attack, that foreigners hate America because of our military
interventions, promised a more humble foreign policy, and said the type
of government a country has is none of our business?
Did you vote for a president who refuses to secure our borders?
Did you vote for a president who is willing to allow middle eastern
countries to control our ports?
If you voted for Bush, then your answer to the above questions is: Yes,
yes, and yes. Did you vote for Bush?

I misread the question the first time and didn't see that the post was
about Air American Radio, so I digress. My response was lame. You are
right. That is why I deleted it and readdressed the actual issue, but
I have to disagree with you about liberalism. There are still liberals
about and I suspect there always will be, right alongside conservatives
and everyone in between.

Yes, 'liberalism' will always be there - and really it's
a good thing. 'Liberals' are supposed to be the 'conscience'
for the conservatives. Doesn't mean it's a good idea to
let them RUN things however ...
There's also an issue of what "liberalism" actually MEANS in
the practical sense. This has changed considerably over the
years. 'Liberals' have been ardent supporters of commie
dictatorships, socialists, collectivists, smug little "We
know how to run your life better than YOU do" twits,
laissez-faire small-'L' libertarians, communitarian-
totalitarian 'Borg'-like monsters and too-much-brown-acid
bleeding-heart minus-IQ hippy-dippies.
Meanwhile, the 'conservatives' have remained much the same,
their title being an accurate product description.
The 'neo-cons' aren't really 'conservatives'. Dunno WHERE
they fit ... their rhetoric and practices are all over the
board. Seems like a pseudo-ideology custom designed to
appeal to 51% of the voters in some way, but with no sort
of cohesive philosophy behind it. Talk like theocrats,
spend like 'liberals', pro-business like Republicans,
big-government like 'liberals' ... here, there and
everywhere. Definitely not 'liberals', but not your
fathers 'conservatives' either.
Almost totally lacking nowdays - proper small-'L'
pro-rights libertarians. Given the choice, I'd call
THEM the "true liberals". Give slack - expect slack,
makes for a MUCH nicer low-friction environment for
all. Of course peaceable tends to mean 'unprofitible',
strife and polarization generate BIG bucks.

I thought AAR was simply switching over to the more lucrative WLIB. Is
that not the case? Same format and so forth. As for Franken, he is
still on board with WLIB. His latest statement about running for
office is that he would not be able to decide if he would run for a
seat in the Senate until 2007. I hear this is supposed to be
addresssed in his new book.

Get real; I've seen liberal talk radio prosper - IN CORE URBAN BLUE
NATION. It did damn well on Cleveland station WERE (which had both
right-wing hosts and left-wing Merle Pollis) in the early 1970s. It
also did similarly very well on Boston's WBZ - which similarly opposed
right-wing and lefty hosts.

Because there wasn't a MARKET for their product! If you look at the
places they were aired, it was almost all in core urban Blue Nation and
a fistful of "college towns." And on low-wattage stations at that -
meaning short range and few possible listeners to sell for big ad
rates.

There is the market. AAR has simply restructured. In August, they
will become WLIB. Same format, same message. Different financial
structure.

Get real. The Red-vs.-Blue voting maps from 2000 and 2004 showed
NIL market for lefty broadcasts outside of the small areas Err Amerika
did end up ghettoized to - core urban Blue Nation and a fistful of
"college towns." That left no way to bring in enough ad revenue to pay
the bills of a major syndicated show that was renting its air time - as
too few listeners were available in just those areas.

Like a bad comedy, aparantly followed religiously by the right. By the
amount of coverage Air America gets in these posts, and on right wing
radio (dutifully dismissing it as a failure) one could get the
impression it was a threat to them. But I'm sure you will be happy to
put up another dozen posts declaring it isn't.

Pretty slow death, don't you think?
Not only that, but AAR and its progressive ally Jones Radio (on which
Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller are carried) have faced PHENOMENAL
growth in less than 3 years. Sure, they've hit some bumps on the road,
but overall, their growth model is quite competitive, given that it
took more than 20 YEARS for the conservobot talking shitheads to get
where they are now...

Oh yeah, Jones Radio. They have offices behind Mr. Julio's School of
Hair Styling and Tienda de Bellazo.
Ed Schultz became a big name when he started juggling live squirrels and
doing card tricks with a pet owl. Stephanie Miller is well known in
Cobbs Creek, West Virginia for designing tin foil hats worn by a locals.
What a line up.
Their program can now be heard on Channel 54 of side band CB radio.

They are so far across on the radio dial they are over ridden by Radio
Paraguay and the Nova Scotia fishing boat chatter.
They can't afford anyone who has anything to say worth a listen. It's
kind of like a vanity radio station. If you work for free, you get to
sit in front of a microphone, and if you want someone to mention your
name, you contribute.
