Imagine -John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...
Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
and the world will be as one.
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say Im a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.
Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Yeah! I used to like the theme from the Soviet National Anthem, before they
changed it to include the Russian lyrics. :)
Who will ever forget the episode WKRP in Cincinnati when Lennon's "Imagine"
was denounced as a Communist Anthem by a crazed employee of the FCC!
It was probably one of the best, next to the "Turkeys Away" episode of
course.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WKRP#.22Turkeys_Away.22
"Turkeys Away"
The best-known episode is the first season's "Turkeys Away", named by TV
Guide as one of the greatest episodes in TV history. It relates a disastrous
Thanksgiving promotion, which includes Carlson dropping live turkeys out of a
helicopter. The scene is reported live on the air by the station's news
director, Les Nessman (Richard Sanders), breathlessly describing the unseen
birds plummeting to the ground, in the same manner as Herbert Morrison's
coverage of the Hindenburg disaster, “It's a helicopter, and it's coming this
way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large
banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From ... W ...
K ... R... P!! No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet
what they are, but - Oh my God, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this?
Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went
through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are
hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenburg tragedy
has there been anything like this!”
Afterwards, the stunned and bedraggled Carlson explains, "As God is my
witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

I want to thank your comment because I thought it impossible to show in
less than 20 words the cause of the problems with Western democracies,
specially in the US, Australia, Canada, and UK. The problem is willful
ignorance, and stupidity, of which you make such a splendorous display
in less than two full lines. It normally takes time to know someone has
shortcomings when it comes to some bodily functions like thinking and
reasoning, but you are such a clear case of arrogant stupidity that any
doubt one might have does not last the time it takes to read 14 words.

And which country are they referring to? None other than Iraq. And no,
it is not Al Jazzera who is publishing this; it is the CIA.
The level of pride in your own imbecility is a rare trait only
observable among arrogant right wingers who do not care about truth,
and are only satisfied with truthiness.

Using Iraqi GDP as a measure of development is a classic
example of Bastiat style broken windows fallacy.Using GDP
per capita just gives you a population adjusted measure of
the same horseshit.
If you smash enough stuff up, your economic activity is
going to increase while you proceed to replace it.The real
measure is the opportunity cost, and that dont look pretty.
"The GDP per capita is increasing above Saddams days" - well
of course it is, there's so much more stuff to rebuild.

Indeed! It would really be strange...if it were true!

"The GDP per capita is increasing above Saddams days" - well
of course it is, there's so much more stuff to rebuild.

agreed
however,
1)you appear to have more wit than the other poster i answered...
the other poster made ridiculous stts about bombing into the stone
age...

An exercise of turning rocks into gravel if ever there was
one.

stop squirming...it's undignified

and then responded with more mindless drivel....
i wonder what joy he has for me this time!
2)present figures are starting to be compared with pre attack times

And I've noticed that alot of the 'pro-invasion' mob that
scurry around for stats to help the justification cause use
2003 as the baseline date from which to compare.2003 being
the year that Iraq had the bejesus smacked out of
it.Comparisons with 2003 are made deliberately to distort
the post-war reconstruction successes.

once again you are incorrect....
my support for the removal of the madman goes far wider and deeper
than the irak economy....
it is yourself and your brain donor who attempt to distort by using
limited, narrow and outdated data.....
i merely pointed out the idiocy.....

3)i have posted a new fred with some source material.....
4)i don't suffer fools, consequently do not uncritically expect a similar
response to that i gave (and may continue to offer) the brain donor

I really dont give a toss what you do.

then stop responding.

GDP is a dodgy mechanism to use as evidence that Iraq is
going great, even if the GDP estimates were statistically
trustworthy.
Which they're not anyway.

shifts in consumption patterns, or shifts in income

going great, even if the GDP estimates were statistically

Which they're not anyway.

because of context...your brain donor quoted such a figure....

The Brookings data, and some
regurgitated twaddle from a blog used these very GDP
estimates as their key flow stat.

the brookings data are among the best figures we have.....
brooking is a responsible and reasonably balanced group....
nothing is perfect....perhaps you prefer empty rhetoric like your
brain donor in place of any figures...

what is the size of the off books economy?
what is the extent of corruption?

Good question - do you have any reliable data?

i read widely including what is coming out of the area from
independent ('private') sources....eg blogs....
the general impression i get is the economy is steadily improving....
naturally after 30 years of ba'ath national socialism and repression
it is not heaven on earth....
any figure like gnp should be contextualised....

if you have any sense or critical judgement....
you look at ever increasing trade and sales of consumer durables flying

it almost certainly means consumer goods are getting to a considerably
wider part of the population...not just the national socialist elite
and their protegees....

The problem is, we dont know.

your on/off 'logic' is foolish....we know quite a lot...all information is
'incomplete' in the real world.....

What we do know is that Iraq is

you know no such thing....
so you do prefer empty rhetoric to analysis....

Some bloke quoted CIA sourced GDP as a reflection of the sad

You said it was untrustworthy as a measure, and as evidence,
provided a Brookings report that used GDP data!
And it used Nominal GDP data, that when it was adjusted for
inflation actually showed Iraq to be in a worse condition
than the original CIA data!
Roflol!

Context of what - your shamless stupidity?

you are trailing the parade.....
my posting of the latest gdp was in response to a brain donor
who posted an out of date figure along with the usual empty
leftist about the stone age....
i further posted much other data...
but i will not hand hold or encourage posturing brain donors...

Nope.

But the bible, democracy, and free markets are the flags used by Bush
when bombing Iraq into the stone age.

Indeed! It would really be strange...if it were true!

In the above link one reads:

GDP - real growth rate: -3% (2005 est.)

And which country are they referring to? None other than Iraq. And no,
it is not Al Jazzera who is publishing this; it is the CIA.

The level of pride in your own imbecility is a rare trait only
observable among arrogant right wingers who do not care about truth,
and are only satisfied with truthiness.

That is a very good example of "Stay the course" tactic so dear to
right wing idiots. Once reality contradicts your statements, keep
repeating those statements, and people (at least the idiotic portion of
the people) will think that you stick to your principles.

I have no hopes whatsoever regarding you; I consider you beyond any
hope.
As for you treating me like an idiot, I do not give a rat *****. Your
opinion about anything is worthless to me. I brought a link from the
CIA which states that the CIA considers that the GDP of Iraq has
diminish by 3% in 2005. Since 2006 is still going, that is the most
recent annual evaluation you can get from the CIA.
Of course, anyone is entitled to doubt the figures given by the CIA, or
any organization for that matter. But, in that case, one is expected
to give some explanation, or attempt of explanation, as to why one
considers those figures wrong. And when, in the case of Iraq, one is
convinced that the GDP has increased while the CIA says it has
diminished, it would be appreciated if one can explain why the CIA
would be interested in deny such a triumph of the government policies,
and instead choose to give ammunition to those who say that Iraq is
going from bad to worse.
But, in the case of an idiot like you, one is better off not having
high expectations.

One day, if they have their way, the "religious right" will edit the Bible
again; just as it was done many times in the past, including the King James
version when many things were added and removed.
This time though, the socialist ideas of Christ will be cut out entirely.
