Why should American taxpayers foot the bill to demolish Abu Ghraib? |
Not only are we paying to tear it down, we're going to pay to replace it
with a "new maximum-security prison." You can bet this will be more pork for
Bush's cronies while the rest of America goes without a real healthcare
system and decent schools.
By tearing down Abu Ghraib, Bush is attempting to sweep his administration's
mess under the rug.

one-third of that increase came from defense spending and homeland security.

It will be better known as the George W. Bush Recreation Center for G.I.s.

A brand new shining prison built by the occupying force for a puppet
government, courtesy of the US taxpayer (not Halliburton, etc. since
they are evading their economic duty in the Caymans).
It's an incredibly appropriate symbol. Bush loved prisons back in
Texas, especially in Huntsville which executed more people than all of
the death penalty states combined while Bush was governor.
Expecting Bush to announce the building of a new hospital, university,
vocational training facility, etc. to help repair neglected
infrastructure is ridiculous. A new prison is something that,
interestingly, both Saddam and Bush can appreciate.
It's obvious that, from Rumsfeld's perspective, the whole problem was
never the torture. That was intended, deliberate and engineered with
operation Copper Green and others. Rumors and reports of ill-treatment
have been circulating for months, but never really investigated by the
mainstream Western media. The photos caught
GE/Westinghouse/ABC/NBS/CBS, as well as Rumsfeld, off guard. And next
time there will be no photos. Torture? Certainly. Photos? Certainly
not. Just the quietly ignored rumors again.

The problems at Abu Ghraib were not the building - it was the guards.
These same and similar offenses were committed at a dozen other prisons.
Should we tear them all down and build new ones because the guards
were abusive?
What a waste to taxpayer money!

As far as I am concerned the whole Iraqi thing is a waste of tax
payer dollars. The destruction of the prison is symbolic of new times
that are coming. A bigger better prison only foretells of things to
come.

American tax-payers will have to pay for a new high-tech torture place
because Abu Ghraib is now a sore in our eye. It will keep reminding the
Iraqis and the Americans how Americans have been treating Iraqi patriots who
had dared to fight for liberation of their motherland. We'll need to make
sure that no camera-phone signals, no emails, no pigeons will be able to
escape from the new prison.

While stupid West-haters like Sogobia continue to make asses of
themselves, smarter people know what the real issues are:
1. Abu Ghraib is a blot on the US's record and demolishing it is a
good thing;
2. Any leftists who are smart (a very rare combination) will be
suspicious not of the demolition and reconstruction itself, but of the
details -- will this big project be a gold-plated case of war
profiteering? Will someone in tight with the Bush people get the
contract(s) to demolish and rebuild the prison?
3. Since smart leftists are very rare, once again I have provided
assistance.

But why didn't those who proposed operating the prison in the FIRST place
think about the consequences of us using one of the most notorious prisons
in the world. That is almost unbelievable.

Actually, I wrote a post right after the speech wondering which of the Bush
Crime Family's connections would be building the new prison. I believe other
liberals on here followed soon after.
Any rightwingers who are smart realize that politics has nothing to do with
intelligence.
3. Since smart leftists are very rare, once again I have provided

We appreciate the thought, but your assistance should be to the Bush
Administration. They seem to need the help of anyone who can think.
