California has enacted a lot of legislation on identity theft. One of
them is that corporations must disclose theft of personal information
to their customers. Other similiar laws are being considered and have
been passed throughout the country. There is also one before Congress.
Will the latest debit card breach of information involving 200,000 in
California and the fact that it now appears that several business and
banking institutions might not have disclosed the breach put these laws
to the test?
