Greenpeace Targets WTO
Around 40 demonstrators from environmental group Greenpeace
held a protest outside the Geneva-based World Trade Organization
Monday morning.
The activists replaced the WTO insignia with a new sign reading
" World Transgenic Order ", and denounced the trade agency for
"promoting corporate interests of the genetic engineering industry"
such as Monsanto.
Some demonstrators were dressed in straitjackets while others in
Uncle Sam costumes pretended to force feed them in a mock display.
The protest came as the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body was
meeting to discuss US complaints against the European Union's
de facto moratorium on genetically modified organisms (GMO's).
