of pain and suffering in ther life, then they begin to realize that
suffering is real! It's not an illusion. It doesn't just happen to other

Well, the way I see Stevie and so much of the cold-assed, *rational*
('voice of reason", "hiroshima facts", as recent nauseating examples here)
neoconic nazis and assorted rightwing evangelical creeps, as either folks
who haven't gone through much mental or physical suffering in life and,
therefore, are unable to emphathize with others, OR any degree of
suffering they've done has made them PSYCHOTIC and in DENIAL (or, in other
words, they're scared totally shitless!). It could be either way, mondo.
Additionally, there is the factor of GUILT for the self-centeredness,
selfishness, sadism, and other emotionally based sicknesses they might
compel them to deny and turn them into sociopaths and psychopaths. They
are disassociative characters whose daily reality is regularly recreated
as necessary to keep their fantasies as the 'truth' of life they avidly
proselytize.
Make no mistake, mondo (which, in fact, you haven't!), that Stevie is
deeply DISTURBED much like the two sick leaders whose policies he
supported -- until it became too obvious even for his delusional state of
being that such leaders had made MISTAKES...oh no, not that they are evil
and sick and are as terrible as the terrorists they publicly rail against,
but that they are "simply" fallible, in Stevie's view NOW (but not
earlier), and have made bad, bad mistakes of judgement. Stevie, realizing
this uncomfortable reality about his leaders, now says he thinks they
mismanaged certain aspects of the Iraq war. There is no interest in him or
former supporters like him, though, to define these leaders as
pathological liars, manipulators...as EVIL people who serve their own
interests, their own fanatical worldview. Oh no siree, they've just
bungled some things, and, after all, those "liberals", those despicable
Democrats, went along with them SO why, in Stevie's twisted view, should
BLAME be put solely upon those who make the FINAL decisions, but that
blame should be equally distributed. (Time and time again, Stevie turns a
deaf ear to revelations politicians are lying sacks of *****, phonies, and
shouldn't be trusted.) The process of this manipulativeness of Stevie's is
to lessen the blame on himself for being TOO STUPID or NAIVE or
INEXPERIENCED to recognize political chicanery. Oh yeah, he laments having
supported their Iraq war and parts of their WOT war (and some other
policies, such as immigration), and keeps telling us "if I knew then what
I know now" he wouldn't have supported the war BUT he reiterates that
those liberals we "fringe" leftists support also supported Bush's invasion
of Iraq. And by smorgasboarding the blame for starting the war, as well as
how parts of it were mismanaged, Stevie fervently hopes to relieve himself
of whatever guilt he might feel, or responsibility he might have.
I'm not saying he has much guilt, or conscience, but that it is possible
any feeling of guilt is overshadowed by a conformist desire to 'go along'
with what is now unpopular among those who formerly thought it was
popular.Really, anyone who would join the military and want to be told
what to do every day, dress and talk much alike, cowtow to authority...is
a puppy-dog personality in search of guidance from those he hopes,
believes know something about how to conduct your individual life better
than he might.
Stevie is a classic 'follower' and apologist for authority's EVIL doings
(while half-heartedly criticizing their so-called mistakes) because he
must believe that those above him in the pecking order MUST be righteous,
altrusitic folks who know what is right and what is wrong, know what to
do about any problem, and know the why and how of all perplexing things in
life.
He is essentially, mondo, a bloodless android type. He might as well have
been created in a genetics lab or robotics factory. But some mother once
bore the lil' guy, and he stumbled through life...and here he is. Still
stumbling, bumbling.
He is the embodiment of fascism, Nazism, imperialism...the dedicated
modern link to such authoritarian, arrogant empires as Rome. He is that
proverbial foot soldier, hooving along, joyfully singing a patriotic song,
and mostly blind to the dark tunnel he marches through every day. It is a
tunnel he will say he'd kill and die for, but doesn't care that it has an
end at all, or what that end might mean. It's the obsessive, compulsive
march that really, truly counts.
