Tony maroney what are you trying to tell us?
C I-Q24 A cit=E9 neufue pensif pour condemner,
Loysel de proye au ciel se vient offrir:
Apres victoire a captifs pardonner,
Cremone et Mantoue grands maux aura souffert
[While they are] taking thought at Naples for making peace/concessions-
The bird of prey offers himself to the heavens; After victory [they
shall give) pardon to the prisoners-- [At?] Cremona and Mantua- shall
have suffered great ills.
Line 1. New City is probably Naples, which was a power center of the
Habsburgs, although, as elsewhere in the Quatrains, the various
Villanovas, Villeneuves, Cittanovas cannot be ruled out. For
'condemner' (to condemn, damn), reading 'condoner' (to concede, permit,
pardon, make an accord).
Line 2. Meaning: the eagle flies away, or the Imperial army withdraws.
'Loysel' is MF '1'oiseau.'
Line 4. The rhyme is not correct, and 'souffert' should probably be
'souffrir,' an infinitive used as a noun.
Tell us Duckie,
C5Q79. The sacred pomp will come to lower its wings, Through the coming
of the great legislator: He will raise the humble, he will vex the
rebels, His like will not appear on this earth.
LXXIX. Par sacree pompe viendra baisser les aisles, Par la venue du
grand legislateur: Humble haussera, vexera les rebelles, Naistra sur
terre aucun aemulateur.
