Al-Qa'eda on doorstep, says Blunkett
(Filed: 15/11/2004)
Al-Qa'eda is "on our doorstep and threatening our lives", David Blunkett warned
yesterday.

Forthcoming court cases will reveal the full threat to Britain from terrorism,
the Home Secretary said.
His comments came amid signs that Tony Blair was planning a "security" campaign
at the general election.
Mr Blunkett insisted that he was not trying to frighten people "to death" in
the run-up to the poll, expected next May. But he said: "People don't want to
have us with very good systems of picking their bodies up. They want us to have
very good systems of protecting their lives."
Mr Blunkett was speaking after reports that the Prime Minister will run on a
"security and opportunity" ticket at the election. Unable to move on from Iraq,
Mr Blair is expected to try to make a virtue of his war record following an
expected visit from President George W Bush shortly before the campaign gets
under way.
Mr Blunkett made the link between global insecurity and people's fear of crime
in a speech to a Blairite think-tank yesterday.
The Home Secretary has insisted that Labour will not use the "politics of fear"
at the election. However, that did not prevent him issuing yesterday's stark
warning on BBC1's Politics Show. "Al-Qa'eda and the international network is
seen to be, and will be demonstrated through the courts over months to come to
be, actually on our doorstep and threatening our lives," he said.
"I am talking about people who are [going through] and about to go through the
court system."
Earlier, Sir John Stevens, the outgoing Metropolitan Police Commissioner, told
BBC1's Breakfast with Frost: "We have thwarted a number of attacks. We can't
talk about the details, which is frustrating, but we have had considerable
successes."
Mr Blunkett also spoke of Labour taking up the mantle as the party of law and
order, even though the Conservatives have traditionally been viewed as being
stronger on these issues. "To feel safe walking down the street is the primary
goal," he said.

Al-Qa'eda on doorstep, says Blunkett
(Filed: 15/11/2004)

Al-Qa'eda is "on our doorstep and threatening our lives", David Blunkett

warned

yesterday.

Yeah, and we all know how full of it Blind Pugh is.

Forthcoming court cases will reveal the full threat to Britain from

terrorism,

the Home Secretary said.

Mm hmmm - 600 odd people so far arrested under British anti-terror laws,
number linked to Al Qaead - none. Most of them were IRA/UDA etc.

His comments came amid signs that Tony Blair was planning a "security"

campaign

at the general election.

Well, it worked for Tony's Big Brother...

Mr Blunkett insisted that he was not trying to frighten people "to death"

in

the run-up to the poll, expected next May. But he said: "People don't want

to

have us with very good systems of picking their bodies up. They want us to

have

very good systems of protecting their lives."

Blunkett, you are a fucking toerag, do you realise you just contradicted
yourself..
I hope the BBC repeat "The Power of NIghtmares" time and time again in teh
run up to the election. Labour in, but at the very least Blunkett out.

You mean Chis's buddies?
BTW, the IRA has links to some Islamic Terror groups, so this should come as no
surprise.

I doubt Chris has many buddies in the UDA...

He surely has them in the IRA.

Nope, Gaddaffi has made a lot of nice gestures, nothing concrete has come of it
though.

I also hope they show it on BBC World sometime soon.
My favorite scene was the video footage of Osama surrounded by gun
toting psycho's blazing away at the sky -- hired for the day... bring
your own gun.
And...
The prescient interview with Brent Scrowcroft recorded in 1996. In
defending the decision not to overthrow Saddam Hussein at the end of
Desert Storm: "Had we tried, we might still be occupying Baghdad now. It
would have turned success into a very messy probable defeat."
Another prophet! ;)

I'm sure they will. Luckily I have a friend in the UK who sends me "comfort"
packages of videos, marmite, twinings tea and hula-hoops every month or so.
This month's was Clarkson test driving Nick Mason's Ferrari F60 and the
aforementioned documentary.

Mine too! That and the revalation that OBL never referrered to his
organisation as "Al Qaeda" until after 9/11

Spooky stuff...while I found some bits of the doc a bit *too* blasé I'm sure
it lies closer to the truth than Britain's male Cassandra would have us
believe..

Yeah, we should have left Saddam in power so that he could continue to kill his
own people and continue to threaten every country in the region and finally one
day realize his dream of a nuclear bomb.
Yeah, that would have been real good.

Bush's father said the same thing. Of course, Bush gets all his advice from
his *other* Father, so of course it was all news to him! 9_9
