Iran's Arab problem
Tehran faces separatist movement at home

Iran, the backer of Shiite separatist movements in Iraq and throughout
the Persian Gulf, is now the target of an Arab separatist movement
within its borders, reports Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, the premium,
online intelligence newsletter published by the founder of WND.
Iran is being rocked by riots from Kurdish and Arab separatists along
the border with Iraq. In the southwest province of Khuzestan, at least
three people were killed in fighting between security forces and Arab
protesters.
The Arabs stormed banks and government offices and destroyed police
cars in the city of Ahvaz over the weekend.
The Arabs want a separate state. Naturally, Iran has blamed the United
States.
"It seems that some hands are at work to take advantage of the event,"
Kazem Jalali, a member of parliament's National Security and Foreign
Policy Committee, said.
Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency said clashes erupted
Friday in the Arab-majority oil-rich province of Khuzestan over
reported plans to change the ethnic makeup of the area.
Al-Jazeera said three Arabs were killed, many more injured and as many
as 250 arrested after banks and police stations were set ablaze.
Police said 137 people behind the rioting were arrested while another
eight were injured. The unrest, which broke out in three areas of the
province's main city, Ahvaz, resulted in damage to public buildings
and banks.
Iranians of Arab descent make up about 3 percent of the population of
the Islamic republic – a population of about 2 million.
Iran blames the latest uprising on a forged letter ordering coercive
relocation of ethnic Arabs – strongly suggesting that outsiders are
responsible.
The letter, attributed to former Iranian Vice-President Muhammad Ali
Abtahi, promoted migration of the Arab population to the northern
provinces of the country.
Iranian government spokesman Abd Allah Ramezanzadeh said yesterday the
letter was forged and aimed at provoking ethnic tensions.
"President Muhammad Khatami had ordered the Intelligence Ministry and
the Supreme National Security Council to identify those behind the
unrest," Ramezanzadeh said.
"Due to the special investigations carried out by the presidential
office, it has become clear there exists no letter with such a
content," he said.
"Furthermore, the content of the letter does not comply with any
political principles of the Islamic Republic and it is merely aimed at
inciting Iranian ethnic groups," he added.
However, the London-based Popular Democratic Front of Ahwazi Arabs in
Iran told Aljazeera.net yesterday there was no way the letter was
forged.
"They are just trying to get out of the hole they have dug themselves
into," said the front's coordinator and official spokesman Mahmud
Ahmad al-Ahwazi, referring to the government.
"It is not as if this was the first letter. Letters addressing the
forced migration of Ahwazi Arabs are over a decade old.
"And Abtahi himself even campaigned for election on the anti-Arab
platform – telling local Iranians that Ahwazis would be prevented from
buying land within 20 kilometers of the border."
The group added that the violence on Friday resulted in the deaths of
three Ahwazi Arabs, 26 seriously injured and more than 300 arrested.
Abtahi denied having written such a letter, saying on his website that
anyone who read the letter would realize such a decision could not be
implemented in Iran.
"I have never had the prerogative to order a change of demographic
composition," Abtani said.

LOL
WorldNutDaily is now parroting Mullahs' propaganda. Well, at least they are
impartial parrots. Here's the real story:
SMCCDI (Information Service)
April 15, 2005
Violent clashes rocked, today, the southern City of Ahwaz
located in the oil rich Khoozestan province.
Hundreds of residents clashed with Islamic regime forces
who used rubber bullets, tear gas and clubs in order to
avoid the spread of riots generated in several areas of the
city, such as, Kian and Khashayar districts.
Dozens have been injured or arrested by the regime forces.
Several banks and public buildings, such as, Law
Enforcement stations have been damaged by incendiary
devices.
The situation is very tense and most accesses to different
areas have been closed by the security forces deployed
massively in the city.
The riots started following the rumor that the Islamic
regime is intending to diminish the social impact of
residents of Arab origin who are living in the area.
Few independentists tried to transform these rallies in
their favor but their calls were ignored by residents as
most Iranian Arabs believe strongly in the territorial
integrity of Iran. Most of them fought Saddam forces during
Iran-Iraq war of 1980-87.
Sources are confirming that the rumor was spread by the
Islamic regime's intelligence in order to fuel racism and
to create a general situation making fear to Iranians on
possibility of a split of the country in case of the
overthrown of the Islamic State.
The regime's leadership is hoping to create a situation
rallying Iranians behind the candidacy of Hashemi
Rafsanjani in the upcoming Presidential elections.

That's exactly how fascist regimes function. Look at the Bush Administration
today and how they have been fueling racism in order to gather support from
fearful Americans like yourself.
And you;re proud of this?
Why would I be proud of this? I am a liberal, remember.

Indeed, like the one you support in Teheran.

Nothing if the sort is being done by the President, if it were, the

There is no racist or Nazi like tactics in the President policy, that
you think there is shows how out of touch you are.
Yet you say nothing to Stat, or about the Iranians who are indeed
planning such things.

Holding Muslims and Arabs without charging them would count. Making it
seem "un-American" to voice an opinion that contradicts Der Bush. There
are others, but they've all been pointed out on numerous other
occasions, and you still don't see them.

Seeing as how Stat is the one who posted it, it's quite obvious that
he's aware of the similarity in tactics - so there is no use in posting
it. Neocons require "me, too!" posts to feel secure in their opinons,
normal people don't need that.

I've responded in other threads - it was very clear the Stat was

else needs to see "me, too! I think it's bad, too!" posts.
